Favourites Qualify For Avonmore Milk Schools Cup Semi Finals

In the end there were no shocks in the three Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Senior Cup ties that were played, but all were closely contested up to the final whistle.
Crescent Comp 10, Castletroy College 3.
Crescent advance to a meeting against either holders P.B.C. or St. Munchin’s in next months semi finals after they withstood a brave challenge from Castletroy College at Dooradoyle.
In a tight opening half Crescent broke the dead lock on twenty seven minutes when wing forward Padric Ryan got in for a try and five minutes later out half Larry Hanley doubled their advantage with a try to leave Crescent 10-0 ahead at half time.
Minutes into the second half Barry Neville was off target with a penalty effort but made amends shortly afterwards to leave a gap of seven points.
In an exciting final ten minutes, Castletroy opted to run penalty opportunities when kicks at goal might have been more advantageous.
Crescent’s cause was not helped when one of their players received a yellow card in the closing stages but the Dooradoyle College side held on for victory.

Rockwell 8, Ard Scoil Ris 3.
Favourites Rockwell were pushed all the way by a gallant Ard Scoil Ris side at Clanwilliam Park before booking their place in the last four.
Ard Scoil Ris got off to a great start with a penalty from out half Rory Collins for a 3-0 lead after three minutes. Collins was off target with a similar effort minutes later.
Rockwell came more into the game after this but penalty misses on 17, 19 and 33 minutes left the Limerick school 3-0 ahead at half time.
Three minutes into the second half scrum half Brian Haugh levelled the scores with a penalty for Rockwell and six minutes from time to the delight of the large following from the Tipperary school he got in for a try to clinch victory.

Christian Brothers College had to battle to the final whistle at Temple Hill to book their place in the semi finals where they will meet Rockwell.
In a closely fought opening half play swung from end to end but due to the heavy rain handling errors were numerous. Christians went into the lead with a try from Yasin Browne three minutes before the break and Darragh McNamara converted for a 7-0 half time lead for the Cork side.
A drop goal from out half Brendan Monohan and a penalty by McNamara extended Christians lead. Conor Kearns kicked a penalty for Glenstal but it was not enough to prevent C.B.C. advancing.
