17th August 2009 By Munster Rugby
On Monday August 10th, Fermoy RFC held and open evening in a bid to start a women’s senior team. The club already has a strong underage girls section, many of whom have now come through the ranks to play at senior level.
Fermoy RFC Club President Sean Lomasney along with Coaches Michael Lyons, Lorna Browne and Deeny Lyons were present to welcome the girls and have a meeting prior to getting out on the pitch.
Post meeting, Munster Rugby Women’s Development Officer, Gemma Crowley, was on hand to aid coaches as they introduced the girls to the basic skills of rugby. The Magners League Trophy was also present on the evening for the girls to get their photo taken with.
In total there were 22 girls in attendance at the open evening with more to follow in the coming weeks.
The team will train on Monday and Wednesdays from 7pm – 8.30pm in Fermoy RFC. For more information, please contact Deeny Lyons on 087-2756271 or Louise Rogers on 087-1237527 – All are welcome!
