Fitness Workshops Well Supported
4th October 2010 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby Domestic Games Department Co-Ordinated two Fitness Workshops on Monday 27th September in Limerick Institute of Technology and on Tuesday 28th September in Cork Institute of Technology.
The Workshops were presented by Des Ryan (IRFU Fitness Education Manager) and over 220 Coaches who work with young children in their respective schools and clubs attended this very beneficial event.
Part of Des’s role is to manage the continued professional development programme for IRFU Fitness Coaches and also manage the fitness development structures for rugby players from Mini Rugby to 19 years. Coach Development Officers opened the workshops in LIT and CIT.
The workshops focused on assessing and developing Fundamental Movement Skills in Young Children at Stage 1 and 2 of the LTPD (Long Term Player Development Pathway).
The workshop was both practical and theory based and included the newly updated fitness and conditioning content from the Mini and Foundation Coaching Courses. It also focused on Physical Activity and Movement Skill Development in Children aged from birth to 17 years and investigated their physical activity levels, windows of opportunity, PHV and fundamental movement skills.
Thank you to all that attended, with special thanks to Donnacha McNamara in LIT and Mai O'Leary in CIT for coordinating and providing the facilities.
Can we also thank Des Ryan for two very well presented workshops and to Joe McKeniry, Ross Callaghan and Shaun McCarthy for their input and participation.
Further courses to be arranged and details of which will be posted on the Munster Rugby website.
