Five Munster Players In Irish U19s Squad
6th April 2017 By The Editor
Garryowen FC and Presentation Brothers College have two representatives each in an Irish squad that sees five Munster players in total – two from West Cork – travel to France to take on the hosts in two tests at Bordeaux.
Diarmuid Barron and David McCarthy from the Dooradoyle outfit will join Bryan O’Connor from the side’s previous game against Japan, and Munster Schools Senior Cup winning captain Jack O’Sullivan.
It’s been a good week for Irish representation at the Mardyke school, as yesterday PBC trio Jonathan Wren, Sean French, and Billy Scannell were selected for the Irish Schools side that are due to play in Wales over the Easter holidays.
Also making his second appearance for the Irish 19s this year is Bandon Grammar School’s James French. The loosehead prop was a star performer for the West Cork school, who have enjoyed a fantastic season under Régis Sonnes.
Bandon have already seen several of their players face the Japanese on that tour, this time in Munster colours, and it brings a third Irish U19s honour to West Cork; French following in the footsteps of Bantry Bay’s Dylan Murphy into the green shirt.
The third is McCarthy from Union Hall, representing the Dooradoyle outfit alongside former Rockwell College captain Barron.
