Crescent College Comprehensive 17 – 29 Christian Brothers College

Christian Brothers College have one hand on the Garrett Fitzgerald trophy as they secured their spot in their third consecutive Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup final by overcoming Crescent College Comprehensive in Thomond Park.

Christians got scores on the board first with a try from Christopher Barrett in the fifth minute after a fantastic break from Conall Cournane brought the Cork side deep into into the Crescent 22. Charlie O’ Shea added the extras.

It was a tough stint for the remainder of the half as CBC were penalised numerous times for going off their feet in the ruck.

Crescent finally crossed over for their first score of the afternoon in the 31st minute when winger Gerry Joyce dove over the whitewash.

CBC were in for a second time in the half when Bill McCarthy burst through the open space and dotted down. O’Shea sent the conversion soaring through the uprights.

Running into the tunnel at half time CBC lead 5-14.

CBC’s Darragh Prenter was first to cross the line in the second half. A fantastic cross field kick from Charlie O’Shea landed perfectly into his hands allowing him to breeze over the try line in the 40th minute.

Crescent were in for their second try in the 54th minute only to have it ruled out due to a forward pass.

After a period camped up in the Christians 22 Crescent were rewarded as Darragh McKeogh crashed over in the 57th minute.

But CBC responded with a penalty from Charlie O’Shea to bring the score to 10-22 with less than ten minutes left on the clock.

Bill McCarthy was in for his second try of the day in the 64th minute with Charlie O’Shea adding the extras.

But Crescent weren’t finished as Alex McNamara trundled over in the 68th minute with Alan Cleary nailing the conversion that followed.

But it wasn’t enough as Cork’s Christians secured their third consecutive Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup Final spot.
