Shannon’s revival in Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League continues as Nenagh Ormond and Bruff record victories.
Shannon made it three wins from three with a 43-20 win over neighbours UL Bohemian at Thomond Park, a result that puts a big dent on UL Bohemians automatic promotion hopes.
Two penalties from Fionn McGibney and a try by Conor Glynn had Shannon 11-3 ahead at half time. Rick McNamara kicked a penalty for UL Bohs.
Shannon extended their lead with a penalty try which McGibney converted and McNamara replied with a second penalty for Bohs.
A try from Niall Mulcahy and a McGibney penalty extended Shannon’s lead to 26-6 before Niall Kinnane scored a try for the visitors and McNamara converted.
A try by Greg O’Shea secured the bonus point for Shannon and Jack Stafford converted and added a penalty before Bohs were awarded a penalty try which McNamara converted.
With the last play of the game Stephen Fitzgerald scored Shannon’s fifth try and Stafford added the extras for a deserved local derby victory.
Nenagh Ormond have regained top spot in Division 2A with a 34-18 bonus point away win at Galway Corinthians. Peter O’Leary, Eoin Gardiner, Conor Muldoon, Kevin Seymour and Derek Corcoran score tries for the Tipperary side and Clayton Stewart kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Bruff continued their push for a playoff place in Division 2C with a 37-0 home win over Kanturk. Liam Tracey got Bruff off to a great start with three tries inside the opening thirty minutes.
