There were derby wins for Shannon and Highfield in front of large attendances at the two floodlit games on Friday night .

Shannon have moved off the foot of the table in Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League with a narrow win over local rivals U.L. Bohemian at Thomond Park.

A try from Shane Mullaly and a conversion and a penalty by Tadhg Bennett had Shannon 10-3 ahead at half time. Shane Airey kicked the penalty for Bohes.

Airey and Bennett exchanged early penalties in the second half when Bohs got in for a try from a rolling maul which Airey converted to level the scores 13-13 after fifty five minutes.

Airey put Bohs ahead with a penalty on sixty three minutes, but ten minutes later Niall Horan scored a try for Shannon and Bennett converted to give Shannon a crucial win.

At Woodleigh Park Highfield defeated Kanturk 24-3 and extended their lead at the top of Division 2B.

Tries from Peter Martin and Dave Kelly and a Paddy O’Toole conversion gave Highfield a 12-0 half time lead.

Paul O’Keeffe kicked a penalty for Kanturk three minutes into the second half. Tries from David O’Hea and James Daly which Tim Clifford converted sealed the bonus point win for Highfield.

Ulster Bank League Division 1A: Lansdowne 15 -13 Terenure College;

Division 1B: Shannon 20-16 U.L. Bohemian;

Division 2B: D.L.S.P. 12-17 Navan;
Highfield 24-3 Kanturk;
