Friday Night Rugby Round-Up
7th November 2014 By Munster Rugby
Derby wins for Garryowen and Bruff in Limerick as the Cork derby ends all square.
Dolphin are still searching for their first win in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League after a late penalty earned them a 6-6 draw at Irish Independent Park against Cork Constitution. Stuart Lee put Dolphin ahead with a penalty after twenty five minutes but Dara Lyons had Con’ level six minutes later. Lee missed three kicks at goal and Lyons saw an effort hit the posts before he put the visitors level on 55 minutes. Dolphin rallied in the final minutes and a Lee penalty saw them share the spoils.
At Thomond Park Garryowen got their promotion challenge in Division 1B back on track with an 11-6 victory over UL Bohemian. All the scores came in the opening half. Jamie Gavin gave Garryowen an early 6-0 lead with two penalties, but Shane Airey had the sides level with two penalties for the home side. A try by Ed Rossiter before the break put Garryowen 11-6 ahead, a lead they held onto until the finish.
In Division 2B, Richmond are still searching for their first win after they lost 27-12 away to Bruff. Two tries from Dave O’Grady both converted by Declan Bannon and a Bannon penalty had Bruff 17-0 in front at half-time. Bannon extended their lead with a try early in the second half but Richmond hit back with tries from Stephen and Brian Collins and a conversion by Brian Mullins to make it 22-12 before a late try secured a bonus point for the home side.
