The leaders in all three divisions moved a step closer to promotion with four rounds of games remaining.
Leaders Clonmel have extended their lead to three points at the top of the First Division of the Munster Junior League after their 37-7 away win against Cobh Pirates. The visitors led 20-0 at half-time and had tries from Mark Corby, Neville Melbourne, Conor Cooney, Luke Hogan, Greg Carroll and a penalty try. Cooney kicked two conversions and a penalty. Alan Langford was Cobh’s try scorer and Eamon Ronan kicked the conversion.
Newcastle West defeated Bandon 23-8 to remain in second place. A try from James Kelly and a conversion and a penalty by Sean Herlihy gave Newcastle West a 10-3 interval lead. Kerry Desmond kicked a penalty for the visitors. Alex Morrissey closed the gap to two points with a try a minute into the second half but two penalties by Herlihy and a conversion of a Sean Murphy try saw the home side take the spoils.
Kilfeacle defeated Galbally 16-14 to move into fourth place level on points with Bandon. Brian McLoughlin scored a try for Kilfeacle and Jamie Heuston kicked a conversion and three penalties. Galbally replied with tries from Danny Hayes and Kevin O’Donoghue. John Kearns converted both.
Abbeyfeale are in fifth place with the same number of points as Bandon and Kilfeacle following their 20-11 win against bottom side Old Christians. Derry O’Connor, Philip Collins and Eoin McHenry scored tries for Abbeyfeale and Tom Hassett kicked a conversion and a penalty. Brian Sisk replied with a try for the visitors and Ryan O’Connell kicked two penalties.
St. Senan’s defeated Clanwilliam 25-22 to move into sixth place a point behind Bandon, Kilfeacle and Abbeyfeale and they are a point ahead of Clanwilliam as the battle for a top four place intensifies.
Dean O’Brien, Brian Collins and Fergal Lawlor scored tries for St. Senan’s. Declan Rowe kicked two conversions and two penalties. Vivian Grisewood, Bryan O’Rahelly and Niall Leahy replied with tries for Clanwilliam and Leahy added two conversions and a penalty.
Skibbereen moved out of the relegation places with a 25-0 home win over Richmond. A try from Richie Byrne and a conversion and two penalties by Denis McCarthy had Skibb’ 13-0 ahead at half time. Dave Jennings and Lorcan Carey added second half tries and McCarthy converted one.
Muskerry and Clonakilty both in the relegation mix played out a 15-15 draw at Ballyanly. Stephen Hallissey and Lorcan Collins were Muskerry’s try scorers and Shane Burke added a conversion and a penalty. Shane Scannell and Mark Purcell replied with tries for Clonakilty and Eoin Deasy kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Both Waterpark and St. Mary’s moved a step closer to a quick return to the top flight.
Waterpark received a walkover from Presentation and St. Mary’s defeated Castleisland 43-24 at Grove Island. Aaron Noonan, Kelton Fallon, Darragh Kerley, Adam Guerin, Tommy Galvin and Brian Purcell scored tries for Mary’s. Guerin kicked five conversions and a penalty. Castleisland replied with tries from Willie Casey, Sean Leahy and Gary Downey. Dan O’Shea kicked a conversion and a penalty and Casey added a conversion.
Thurles defeated Youghal 14-12 thanks to a last minute long distance penalty from John Lillis to keep their promotion hopes alive. Lillis got all Thurles scores, try and three penalties. Youghal had tries from Aaron Daly and Jonathan Ormonde with Keith McCarthy converting one.
Mallow eased their relegation worries with a 29-7 home win over bottom side Ennis. Michael Flynn, Peter Cosgrove, Sean Hannon and Jimmy Glynn scored tries and Glynn kicked three conversions and a penalty. Cian Guilfoyle was Ennis’s try scorer and Bryan Murphy converted.
Tralee defeated Charleville 35-12 with two tries each from Jack Quilter, and Ben O’Neill. Jamie Lynch also scored a try. O’Neill converted all five tries.
Ballincollig defeated Kinsale 24-22. Michael Ward and Ian O’Malley scored tries for the visitors and Charlie Boland kicked four penalties and a conversion. Kinsale replied with a try from Josh Barrett and Timmy Broderick kicked five penalties and a conversion.
Third Division leaders Killorglin got back to winning ways with a 16-11 home win against Dungarvan. John Michael Cronin O’Reilly and Seamus Doyle scored tries for the Kerry side and Luke O’Shea kicked two penalties. Killian Corkery replied with a try for Dungarvan and Dave Hickey kicked two penalties.
Mitchelstown won the north Cork derby with a 31-5 away win at Fermoy to move to within three points of leaders Killorglin. Tries from Sean Coughlan and Fionn Herlihy, one of which Pa McGee converted gave Mitchelstown a 12-5 half time lead. Peter Murphy scored Fermoy’s try. Pa Molly, Pa Norris and Herlihy added further tries for Mitchelstown and McGee kicked two conversions.
Killarney continued their recent good run with an 18-3 away win at Bantry Bay. Paudie Sheahan and Cha Johnson scored tries for Killarney and Sheahan added two penalties and a conversion. Andre Polivka kicked a penalty for Bantry.
Fethard edged out Douglas-Carrigaline 16-11. Conor Kavanagh scored a try for Fethard and Gary Kavanagh added a conversion and three penalties. Ciaran Clery replied with a try for the home side and Padraig McSweeney kicked two penalties.
