Galvin Makes First World Cup Start
21st August 2017 By The Editor
Ireland Women’s Head Coach Tom Tierney has named his side to face Australia in the 5th Place Semi-Final match tomorrow, at the Kingspan Stadium Belfast (ko 2pm).
Munster winger Louise Galvin will make her first international 15’s start on the wing to replace her club and provincial colleague Eimear Considine who does not feature in the squad.
Galvin will line out with Alison Miller on the wing with Hannagh Tyrrell retaining her spot at full back.
Munster scrum half Nicole Cronin, who made her international debut in Ireland’s second pool match against Japan, has continuously impressed throughout the campaign and retains her starting position along with fellow half back Nora Stapleton, with Sene Naoupu and Jenny Murphy forming the centre partnership.
Tierney has made one change from the France game in the front row naming Clíodhna Moloney at hooker to replace Munster’s Leah Lyons who drops to the bench. Props Lindsay Peat and Ailis Egan remain in the starting line-up.
The second-row is comprised of Ciara Cooney and Marie-Louise Reilly while the back-row sees Munster’s Ciara Griffin, who has retained her starting position since Ireland’s opening match against the Walaroos at 6, Paula Fitzpatrick at Number 8 and Captain Claire Molloy at 7.
The game will be broadcast on television in the Republic of Ireland by Eir Sport and RTE.
RTE 2fm will have live commentary on radio.
