Munster and UL Bohemians back Louise Galvin returns to the Ireland Women’s Sevens Squad ahead of their final tournament of the season, the second stage of the Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix.
Like their male counterparts, the women are looking to qualify for next season’s Sevens World Cup in San Francisco, and Galvin joins Munster team-mates Claire Keohane and Amee-Leigh Murphy-Crowe, while Cork woman Audrey O’Flynn continues from the first series in Malemort.
In total 10 of the 13 heading to Russia this weekend return from the third placed finish in France in June. Ireland’s Pool C opponents in Kazan are England, Sweden and Poland.
Ahead of the side departing for the Russia coach Anthony Eddy said “The squad had a good two weeks in France in June, finishing third in Malemort at the Grand Prix and then we had a top eight finish at the Clermont 7s, where we had three new caps.
“It’s been a progressive season for the Women’s Sevens Programme, so we will be looking to end it on a positive note in Kazan, where we will be looking to gain qualification for next season’s Sevens Rugby World Cup in San Francisco.”
