Garryowen Defeat Con’ in ODM Senior Cup

Garryowen knock Cork Constitution out of ODM Munster Senior Cup in only shock in second round games.

Cork Constitution 9, Garryowen 15.
A deserved victory for the Light Blues who laid the foundation for this victory with a 12-6 lead. Lorcan Bourke and Anthony Kavanagh scored tries for Garryowen and fergal Lawlor added a conversion. Gerry Hurley kicked two penalties for the home side.
Hurley closed the gap to three with his third penalty but a drop goal by Declan Cusack saw the Limerick side advance to an away tie with Dolphin next week.

Dolphin 28, Old Crescent 0
Dolphin booked there place with an easy victory at Musgrave Park. The home side led 21-0 at the interval with harry Fleming scoring two tries and Robbie Allen one with all three being converted by Barry Keeshan.
John Quill added a fourth try after the break and Keeshan again added the extras.

Young Munster 38, U.C.C. 6.
A superb performance from Willie Staunton who contributed twenty four of his side’s tally. Playing with the wind Munster’s led 19-6 at half time. Staunton scored a try, conversion and four penalties to a penalty and drop goal by Cormac O’Flynn for the students. Further tries by Ger Slattery, Staunton and Darragh O’Neill and a conversion by Andrew Burke made sure of “The Cookies “ passage to the quarter finals.

Nenagh Ormond 13, Shannon 35.
Shannon booked their place in the quarter final with a 35-13 away win over Nenagh Ormond.
Tries from David O’Donovan and Luke O’Dea both converted by Tadgh Bennett left the visitors 14-13 ahead at the break. Jamie Quigley scored a try for Nenagh and Dan Fogarty kicked a conversion and two penalties.
It was only in the final quarter that Shannon made the game safe with three penalties from Bennett making it 23-13. O’Dea and Aaron Spring added further tries and Bennett converted one.

Bruff 34, Clonakilty 0.
Holders Bruff easily accounted for the West Cork side at Kilballyowen Park. The home side led 19-0 at half time. Tom O’Callaghan, Mike Carroll and Tony Cahill scored first half tries and Cahill kicked two conversions.
John Moore added two tries after the break and Ger Collins one.

Midleton 20, Highfield 6.
Midleton will now travel to Bruff next week after they made amends for their Charity Cup defeat by the same opposition last week. Playing into the wind Midleton led 10-3 at half time with a try from Rob Smyth and a conversion and penalty by Peter Brougham. Colin Mahoney replied with a penalty for the visitors.
Brougham added a try conversion and penalty after the break and Ricky Jacobs replied with a second penalty for Highfield.

U.L. Bohemian booked their quarter final spot with a deserved victory at Fitzgerald Park. Edward Kelly, Robert Buckley and Sean Rennison scored tries for the winners and Aidan McNulty kicked two conversions. Wayne Murphy replied with a penalty fot Thomond.
