Garryowen Facing Students In Donal Walsh Final
1st March 2017 By Munster Rugby
All roads lead to Tralee on Saturday as UCC Beagles and Garryowen contest the latest final of the Donal Walsh Trophy.
Last year’s edition saw Cork Constitution complete a perfect season with a 21-7 victory against Young Munster, and despite again reaching the semi-final stage this year the Temple Hill side saw their run ended by Garryowen on their own patch, with an impressive 20-6 victory.
That win, or rather the margin of victory, came as quite of a shock, with nothing separating the teams in terms of points on the regular season table, and Con scoring a six point win in Cork during their only meeting of the year in the competition.
That was one of only three losses for the Limerick side in the round-robin stages, the other two coming against the two UCC sides in the competition; the Beagles and the Bloodhounds. The Beagles have proven themselves the team to beat thus far, and defeated fourth-placed Bruff in a home semi-final 14-8 having finished top of the table.
The Students have shown excellent from in the competition thus far, and will be relishing the opportunity to pick up a local trophy for UCC, whose seconds top the Southern Division as it approaches the final stages.
Kick off in Tralee is on Sunday at 2.30pm.
