Getting To Know: Eimear Considine
3rd August 2017 By The Editor
Continuing on our series in getting to know our seven Munster representatives in the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup, we have a look at Eimear Considine.
Our featured player yesterday – the only uncapped member of the squad Nicole Cronin – was from a background outside of your traditional rugby player, and Eimear is no different, growing up in a Gaelic Games house, and not picking up an oval ball until she hit college.
That’s not to say the Kilmihil native wasn’t a proficient sportswoman however, representing her native county Clare in Gaelic Football and Camogie through the grades, and winning an All-Ireland Intermediate title with the Banner in 2009.
From there, like Cronin, she moved onto the Irish Sevens through their talent identification programme, and having showed her talent at the abbreviated form of the game, last December the 26-year-old made her debut for the province.
The former high-jumper and pentathlete was making her Ireland debut two months later on the wing, with only the Munster game-time under her belt, but held her own on a mucky day in Glasgow. She later made her first start for UL Bohemians, before showing her worth to the side with the crucial second try in this year’s All-Ireland League final showed how far she has progressed in her rugby education.
A home World Cup can only push that along further.
