As the Ireland Women’s Squad continue their preparations for the upcoming World Cup series we catch up with Louise Galvin, one of seven selected Munster players.

Originally from Finuge, Co. Kerry, Louise first took up rugby in 2013 with UL Bohemian at outside-centre, while studying physiotherapy at University of Limerick.

She has since gone on to represent Ireland in rugby 7’s and was part of the recent squad that successfully secured a place in the 2018 7’s World Cup.

Along with fellow Munster player Nicole Cronin, Louise hopes to win her first 15’s international cap during the series, an honour she has claimed on ten occasions while competing on the 7’s circuit.

A sporting all-rounder, Louise’s first sport was basketball which she took up during primary school and continued to play as a teenager at Presentation Convent, Listowel.

She went on to captain the UL Huskies basketball team to national Cup and League success during her years at university.

Her prowess led to her being selected on various national teams eventually becoming one of the country’s leading female basketball players.

During this time Louise also played gaelic football with local club Finuge and represented Kerry from 2010 to 2015 winning the Munster and National League in 2013.

With her overall sporting ability, speed and tenacity Louise is sure to make a great addition to the squad.

Ireland kick off their campaign on Wednesday, 9th August when they take on Australia at the UCD Bowl, Dublin (K.O. 7pm).
