Group Stages | Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior & Junior Cup

The group stages of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior & Junior Cup competitions are currently underway with a new-look format up and running for the 2019/20 season.

Teams in both the Senior and Junior Cup competitions are divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, and play a round-robin series of fixtures before the knock-out stages, scheduled for January 2020.

The introduction of a Munster Club Select Player (CSP) side into the Senior competition sees clubs represented from across the province within a newly-formed team in Group A.

Castletroy College, Presentation Brothers Cork, Ardscoil Rís and Bandon Grammar School join Munster CSP in Group A, while Crescent College Comprehensive, Rockwell College, Christian Brothers College Cork, Glenstal Abbey School and St Munchin’s College make up Group B.

Munster CSP defeated Ardscoil Rís in the opening round of the group stage at Thomond Park – the competition newcomers edging out the home side 31-29.

In Bandon, Castletroy College ran out 18-7 winners in their opening tie with Bandon Grammar School in Group A while Crescent CC claimed a 22-7 victory over St Munchin’s at home in Group B.

Rockwell College defeated Glenstal Abbey 20-8 in Rockwell to kick-start their 2019/20 campaign.

Last season’s finalists CBC and PBC will enter the group stages next week when they face St Munchin’s and Castletroy College respectively.

In the Junior Cup competition, Crescent College Comprehensive, Castletroy College, Ardscoil Rís and St Munchin’s are the schools in Group A, while Christian Brothers College Cork, Bandon Grammar School, Rockwell College, Presentation Brothers College, and Glenstal Abbey School form Group B.

In the opening round of Group B, defending champions Rockwell claimed a 36-0 victory over Glenstal at home as CBC edged out PBC 10-5 in Wilton.

Bandon recorded a 36-0 win away to Glenstal in the second round of Group B action while CBC went on to claim a 33-10 victory over Rockwell in Lansdowne.

In Group A, Crescent CC pushed past St Munchin’s 24-17 at home in the opening round with Castletroy College and Ardscoil Rís set to meet tomorrow (Friday 18 October) at Castletroy College, kick-off 2.30pm.

The next round of matches for both Junior Cup groups will take place next month.
