Guest To Front Highfield Women
30th July 2015 By Munster Rugby
Former Munster and Ireland international Laura Guest has recently been appointed Highfield Women’s Head Coach.
Originally from Templebryan in West Cork, Laura began her rugby career aged 16 playing out-half at local club Clonakilty RFC.
Laura went on to play senior women's rugby with Limerick side Shannon before moving to Highfield in 2010 where she claimed the Munster Cup and All Ireland Cup titles.
In her thirteen years on the Munster squad Laura, who moved position to an accomplished forward, retired from rugby last season after she captained the province to its tenth interprovincial title.
With 36 international caps to her credit, she represented her country in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups. She also featured on the Ireland side that won the 6 Nations and Grand Slam title for the first time in 2013.
Employed as a school teacher at Midleton College in East Cork, Laura is no stranger to coaching where she assumes the role as assistant coach of the school's senior rugby squad.
Commenting on her appointment Laura said “I took up the role as player/coach with Highfield in 2013 and now that I have retired from playing look forward to concentrating on being a head coach.
“This season we have a great squad with a blend of youth and experience and it’s going to be an exciting challenge for us.”
Highfield RFC is currently recruiting for players and will hold a Women’s Rugby Open Day on Saturday, 15th August from 2pm to 3.30 pm at their home grounds.
