Heineken Munster Junior Cup Final

6th April 2007 By Munster Rugby

Garryowen and UL Bohemian face off on Sunday in an all Limerick final of the Heineken Munster Junior Cup at Tom Clifford Park. With their Senior teams also in the mix for play off places in the AIL, the Junior Cup is silverware that both clubs would certainly take great pride in adding to their cabinets.

Despite not having won the title since 1993, Garryowen’s progress through this year’s competition has been steady- notching up sizeable margins against the opposition. The only close encounter was their quarter final clash against last year’s beaten finalists Cork Constitution where the Limerick side claimed a one point victory. The Cork side had already beaten last year’s winner Cobh Pirates in Round Three in a replay of that final last year. Garryowen knocked out Thurles in the second round on a 22-3 margin, followed by a 20-3 win over Clanwilliam in the third round. Defeating Cork Constitution 20-19 in the quarter final, last weekend’s win 15-3 win over Young Munster sealed their place in this year’s final.

UL Bohemian have also had comfortable wins in this year’s competition. They ran out 30-16 winners at home to Abbeyfeale in the second round of matches, and defeated Highfield 20-3 in round 3. Their closest call was a 13-10 win in extra time away to a determined Skibbereen, with a penalty from Ian Costello sealing the win. Last weekend’s semi final saw UL Bohemian’s winning in Cork once again as they defeated Crosshaven 20-9.
