Highfield & Old Crescent On Form In AIL
14th January 2016 By Munster Rugby
Saturday’s match of the day in Division 2B of the All Ireland League has to be the much anticipated clash between leaders City of Derry and second placed Highfield in Judge’s Road. Sunday’s Well are also in Division 2B action in Irish Independent when they host Seapoint.
Old Crescent lead the way in Division 2C and this weekend host 9th placed Sligo at Rosbrien with Munster Clubs Bruff, Kanturk and Midleton also in action.
Munster Clubs Division 2B Preview
City of Derry (1st) v Highfield (2nd), Judge's Road
A potentially 'season defining' game in Division 2B, said City of Derry coach Terry McMaster.
The home side are eleven points clear of their visitors, albeit that Highfield have a game against Rainey in hand.
They are also the only team to beat City of Derry in the league this season – a 29 – 24 win in Woodleigh Park in early November.
Another win for the Cork side would see them reel in their hosts a bit; lose and it's difficult to see anyone catching City of Derry.
Sunday's Well (3rd) v Seapoint (10th), Irish Independent Park
All's well in the Well of late. You have to go back to September to find their last loss in the league.
On Saturday they face a side they have beaten (20 – 7) already this season and there is the prospect of taking 2nd place in the table should City of Derry win at home.
The visitors remain winless in a thankless season for them – a time to learn lessons and rebuild.
Munster Clubs Division 2C Preview
Bruff (4th) v Wanderers (3rd), Kilballyowen Park
Bruff and Wanderers swapped places in the standings on the back of last weekend's results.
Bruff were surprised by a Sligo outfit recording only their second win of the league while Wanderers gained ground on Tullamore with a one point win.
Not much to choose between then on paper, bar two extra try bonus points for the visitors. Saturday may tell a different story.
Kanturk (8th) v Dundalk (10th), Knocknacolon
Kanturk sit five points clear of the danger zone that contains Sligo and Dundalk and they have a game in hand but they can't afford to relax.
The Cork outfit lost to Boyne by a point in their last game while Dundalk were well beaten by the league leaders.
Old Crescent (1st) v Sligo (9th), Rosbrien
The league leaders were in good form last weekend with a second half rout of Dundalk. They are now five points clear of Tullamore.
Sligo have been in interesting form in their last two outings picking up losing bonus points to top four sides Bruff and Tullamore.
Tullamore (2nd) v Midleton (5th), Spollanstown
A tough tight affair against Wanderers last weekend saw Tullamore lose ground to Old Crescent but hang on to 2nd place in the table.
They'll need a return to winning ways to hold on to it this weekend.
Midleton continued their winning form with victory over Naas. A game in hand offers the Cork side a real shot at a top four slot if they win on Saturday.
