Historic Win For Munster Women

Munster women kicked off their Interprovincial campaign on Saturday evening against Ulster, playing for the first time ever in Thomond Park, and the defending champions showed their intent from the kick-off scoring seven tries and holding their northern counterparts scoreless to win 46-0.

Playing under light at the new Thomond Park for the first time the Munster women sparkled in the opening game of the interprovincial championship.

Inspired by captain Joy Neville Munster scored seven tries and their top scorer was Niamh Briggs from Clonmel who had a try, penalty and three conversions.

The other tries were scored by Sandra Williams (Nenagh), Patrique Kelly, (UL-Bohs), Kate O’Loughlin (Clonmel), Amanda Greensmith (Shannon), Laura Guest (Highfield) and captain Joy Neville (UL-Bohs) with Nicole Fitzgerald also kicking a conversion.

Leinster also recorded a win on Saturday as they defeated Connacht 33-8, and both sides will come head to head on Saturday the 31st in Ballincollig RFC, and as always it is sure to be a much closer tie with both sides competing for successive wins.
