International Rugby Legends Visit Kilrush

The pupils of Kilrush Community School were paid a visit by some very special guests this week.

Former international stars David and Paul Wallace, Marcus Horan, Mick O’Driscoll, Shane Williams, Mike Tindall, Gordon D’Arcy and Thomas Castaignede were among the players that visited the school as they completed a charity cycle for cancer research.

The legends answered the students’ questions and Marcus Horan was keen to promote the Kilrush RFC youth section.

Now in its fifth year, the Uniphar CROSS Atlantic Cycle event raises funds for cancer research at Trinity College.

Paul Wallace was the main speaker on the day with Finbarr Walsh, father of Donal Walsh, also speaking to the pupils about the Live Life charity and about the importance of young people talking about their issues, feelings and problems.

Over 200 cyclists participated in the five-stage event this year. In previous years rugby legends such as Doug Howlett, Zinzan Brooke, John Smit, David Campese, Anton Oliver, Phil Kearns, Serge Betsen, Rob Wainwright and Colin Charvis have joined Irish rugby legends including brothers Paul, David and Richard Wallace, Mick Galwey, Mal O’Kelly, Eric Elwood and Paddy Johns.

You can view photos of the visit on the Kilrush RFC Facebook page here. New members are always welcome at the club.
