Ireland 7s Squads Qualify For Olympic Repechage

It was a successful weekend for the Ireland Women’s and Men’s Teams with both sides securing places at the World Olympic Repechage tournament next year with respective 2nd and 3rd place finishes at the Rugby Europe Tournament in Lisbon.

Ireland Women

The Ireland Women side came up just short in the final against an excellent Spanish side in a hot and humid Lisbon this evening but will take consolation from some excellent performances and a place in the World Olympic Repechage.

Ireland Men

Ireland Men qualified for the World Olympic Repechage thanks to a third place finish at the Rugby Europe Sevens tournament with kick offs proving crucial in winning the 3rd place playoff, defeating Georgia by 15 – 7.

Young Munster and academy player Gearoid Lyons took over the captaincy role for the weekend in the absence of the injured Tom Daly and his kicking skills made the difference when providing the perfect attacking platform with hanging re-starts.
