Ireland To Face French Flair In Wheelchair Rugby

Irish Wheelchair Rugby have just announced an upcoming International Test Match against France at on Friday July 11th.

Like their able bodied counterparts France bring a massive flair to the sport and push the very limits with their cavalier style. Ireland for their part have serious firepower to counteract the French threat with star high pointers Alan “Leggy” Dineen and starlight Thomas Moylan in devastating form last time out against Wales, the Irish winning 51-46. Expect a fast, open and hugely physical battle with no let up for the 4 quarters.

Wheelchair Rugby, also known as ‘Murderball’ is the fastest growing sport in the world. Underlining it popularity as a spectator sport, Wheelchair Rugby was the first sport to sell out in the London Paralympic games thanks in no small part to the dedication, physicality and athleticism of the players. In addition to spinal injuries, Wheelchair rugby encompasses those with cerebral palsy, brittle bone syndrome, birth amputees, muscular dystrophy, meningitis and other upper/lower limb impairments. Players have overcome individual challenges and battled adversity in their desire to wear the green jersey on the international stage.

David Ross, former flanker for Ulster Schools Development team;

“When I woke from my operation Rory Best and Tommy Bowe were at my bedside, they have been a huge source of encouragement and have kept me believing in myself. Wheelchair Rugby came into my life during rehab when I attended a demo match ……It’s now not just a sport but a way of life for me”

Ireland v France – ‘The Rumble in the Clontarf Jungle’ takes place at 8pm on Friday July 11th at IAW Sports, Blackheath Drive, Clontarf, Dublin. Admission is free.
