Ireland Women Complete Historic 6 Nations Double
23rd March 2015 By Munster Rugby
As the country celebrated the 6 Nations triumph on Saturday it was the Women’s turn to deliver on Sunday, and that they did, in emphatic fashion when cruising to a 73-3 victory against their Scottish counterparts in Broadwood Stadium.
Ireland Women's Captain Niamh Briggs celebrated her 50th cap by lifting the 6 Nations trophy after rounding off an impressive performance that included the opening try and kicking 6 conversions and 2 penalties.
Briggs was joined by hat-trick hero Alison Miller , Claire Molloy, Heather O'Brien, Gillian Bourke, Paula Fitzpatrick, Sophie Spence, Tania Rosser and Jenny Murphy in dotting down on the day.
In securing the title for the second time in three years Ireland needed to beat the win-less Scots by 27 points at Broadwood Stadium to deny France a second successive crown, and the girls in green did so in style completing a historic first for Ireland with both the men and women returning home with the well-deserved 6 Nations trophies.
Waterford's Niamh Briggs made her 50th appearance for Ireland on Sunday.
