IRFU Launch Charity Ticket Exchange For Women’s World Cup

Ireland begin their campaign against Australia at the UCD Bowl - INPHO/Morgan Treacy

The Women’s Rugby World Cup is rapidly approaching, and the last preparations are being made on and off the field as Ireland aim to win rugby’s biggest prize on home soil.

There cheering on the girls in green (and all the other colours of nations around the world competing) will be packed venues around the nation’s capital, Billing’s Park and the UCD Bowl set to be thronged in a few weeks time as people settle in for the games.

However, Irish rugby want even more people to be given the opportunity to watch the tournament, and have organised a ticket exchange fund which not only allows other the opportunity to watch the tournament, but will also raise funds for injured players under the IRFU Charitable trust.

Tickets are sold on a day basis, with three games taking place during the day. Supporters leaving the first or second game will be able to exchange their ticket back to the ticket office to be sold at face value, with the profit from the second ticket going straight into the injured players’ fund.

The first 300 people leaving each day can exchange their ticket for a Women’s Rugby World Cup pin, as a thank-you from the IRFU Charitable Trust.

Tickets remain on general sale for the finals stages for WRWC 2017, which take place on the 22nd and 26th August in Belfast, while  a small number of tickets remain for match day one of the pool stages in Billings Park, UCD.

Garrett Tubridy, WRWC Tournament Director, said on the initiative. “Women’s Rugby World Cup tickets are sold per-venue, per-day, rather than per-match; this provides great value and the opportunity for each ticket holder to see up to three World Cup matches throughout the day. However, we recognise that people may not be able to stay for all three games which their ticket gives them access to.

“To allow those looking to soak up the atmosphere and be part of an Irish Rugby World Cup we will operate a Ticket Exchange system at both UCD Bowl and Billings Park, which will have the added advantage of raising funds for the injured players who are assisted by the IRFU Charitable Trust. We believe this will be a win-win-win for all involved.”
