IWRFU All Ireland Cup Finals on Saturday
19th April 2007 By Munster Rugby
The Irish women’s rugby senior Cup finals take place this Saturday in Malahide, with Highfield set to compete in the Cup Final at 3pm and Waterpark still on track for the Bowl title.
The competition started in January with all of Ireland’s senior sides entering the first round and as winners and losers emerged, sides were then ranked and entered into four levels – the Shield, Bowl, Plate and the top tier of the Cup competition.
This Sunday sees a repeat of last year’s Cup final with current champions Blackrock facing Highfield – the side who last week beat them in the Division One league semi-final on a 10-0 scoreline.
The Cork side have not been beaten since that game 12 months ago and face a historic seven days as they attempt to complete a title treble.
They have already won the Munster Senior Cup and will contest the league final on April 29.
All eyes will be on Malahide this weekend however as Trinity and Cill Dara contest the first game of the day on the Shield Final.
Next up, St Mary’s face either Newbridge or Waterpark. Despite having lost the league semi final to Navan 8-7 last weekend, Waterpark will be buoyed after a good Cup campaign, which has seen the side defeat Clonakilty and Shannon in this year’s competition. They have to first overcome Newbridge in the semi final on Thursday night.
Old Belvedere and Galwegians is the curtain raiser to the main game of the day.
