Junior Club Roundup

Richmond have moved to the top of Division 1 of the Munster Junior League, as the weather saw several games again postponed.

The games of the day saw Richmond defeat St. Senan’s 19-11 in a hard fought game at Jim Slattery Park and moved up two places to lead the defending champions Clonmel by a point whose home game with Clanwilliam was a victim of the weather.

Brian Mullins gave Richmond an early lead with a penalty in the third minute. Senan’s hit back with penalties from Declan Rowe on 21 and 28 minutes to take the lead.

It was all square at half time as Mullins levelled with a penalty two minutes before the interval.
Two further penalties by Mullins had the Limerick side 12-6 ahead at the end of the third quarter.
Six minutes from time a try from Stephen Collins which Mullins converted wrapped up the points for the visitors.

With the last play of the game Brian Collins scored a try for Senan’s but Rowe’s conversion miss denied the Clare side a losing bonus point.

A late penalty from Dave Lombard earned Clonakilty a share of the spoils as they played out an 18-18 draw with Newcastle West at The Vale. Eoin O’Neill and Rob Howick both scored tries for the home side and Lombard added a conversion and a penalty.

Dave Foley and Dave Ryan scored first half tries for the visitors and Alan Roche kicked two penalties and a conversion.

A second half penalty try converted by Sean Bourke earned Galbally a 12-7 home win over Skibbereen and as a result Skibbereen currently occupy the second relegation place.
Stephen Hayes scored Galbally’s opening try and Alan Jennings replied with a try for Skibbereen which Denis McCarthy converted.

Newport defeated Ballincollig 23-10 win at the UL grounds. Alfie Sudds, Alan Guiry, Gary O’Toole and Shane O’Connor scored tries for the Tipperary side and Philip O’Brien kicked a penalty. Wayne Falvey and Kevin Ryan replied with tries for the Ballincollig.

Crosshaven defeated Scariff 32-0 with two tries each from Eamon Ring and George Jagoe. Sean Scriven also scored a try and Ian Smith converted two and also kicked a penalty.

Both Shannon and Cork Constitution advanced to the semi finals of the Munster Seconds League.

Shannon defeated U.C.C. 31-14 at Coonagh with ties from Jack Foley, Ronan McKenna, Jack O’Halloran and Ciaran Cunnane. McKenna converted all four tries and also added a penalty.

Cork Constitution defeated Old Crescent 33-11. The home side had the game wrapped up by half time as they led 25-6. Eoin Lacey, Liam O’Connell, Sean O’Leary and Michael Clune were Con’s try scorers and Lacey kicked three penalties and two conversions.

Old Christians defeated Kanturk 26-14 in the County Cup. Scott Vickery, Geoff Hodder, Niall McCarthy and Tadgh O’Brien were try scorers for Christians and Sean Meaney kicked two conversions and John Marnell one.
