Junior Club Roundup
17th January 2016 By Munster Rugby
It as a day of drama in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League as both the leaders in Division 2 and 3 won with a bonus point
Munster Junior League leaders Richmond lost their unbeaten record when Clanwilliam defeated them 6-0 at Clanwilliam Park with a penalty in each half from Niall Leahy.
Defending champions Clonmel defeated last year’s Division 2 Champions Bandon 9-7 at Old Chapel in a tightly contested game. A try from Chris Laidler converted by Richard Walsh gave Bandon a 7-6 interval. A third penalty from Conor Cooney fifteen minutes from time decided the issue.
Kilfeacle have moved into third place four points behind the leaders with a 22-17 away win over bottom side St. Mary’s. Isaco Peato, Kevin Kinnane and Ciaran Lowry scored tries for Kilfeacle and Shane Luby kicked two conversions and a penalty. Matthew Hickey and Robbie Gallagher replied with tries for Mary’s and Sean Lyons converted both and also added a penalty.
Galbally kept up their challenge for a top four finish with a 17-3 away win over Waterpark. Two tries from Kevin O’Donoghue to a Geoff Deegan penalty had the visitors 10-3 ahead at half time. Jack Donovan added a third try after the interval and Sean Bourke converted.
Three penalties from Sean Herlihy had Newcastle West 9-0 ahead at home to Muskerry with ten minutes remaining, but the mid Cork side rallied and tries from Paddy Hallissey (70 min) and Liam Donovan (80 min) saw Muskerry win 10-9.
Skibbereen defeated Old Christians 10-0 at Rathcooney. All the scores came in the second half with Kieran Shannon scoring a try and Denis McCarthy kicked a conversion and a penalty.
