There were no shocks in the various Division Cup competitions, but Newcastle West’s unbeaten league run ended in Bandon.
Bandon recorded their first home win of the league with a deserved 20-14 win over Newcastle West. A strong performance from their pack laid the foundation for this victory. They trailed 11-10 at half time but were well on top in the second half.
Michael Beecher and Riobard Wilmot scored tries for Bandon and Richard Walsh converted both and also kicked two penalties. Conor Whelan replied with a try and two penalties for the visitors and Sean Herlihy also added a penalty.
The only other league game played saw St. Senan’s continue their fine run with a 26-18 away win over Clanwilliam.
Warren Kelly and MJ McDonagh scored tries for Senan’s and Declan Rowe converted both and kicked four penalties.
Andrew Ryan and Eddie Ryan replied with tries for the Tipperary side and Niall Leahy converted one and added two penalties.
Holders Clonmel advanced to the semi finals of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup with a 39-10 away win over St. Mary’s. They scored six tries with Tom Gallagher getting two and Brendan Lawlor, Greg Carroll, Darren Cass and Alex Sheehan the others. Conor Cooney kicked three penalties and Luke Noonan added a penalty.
Sean Markham was Mary’s try scorer and Sean Lyons kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Galbally travelled to Skibbereen and defeated the home side 13-9. A try by Michael Donovan and a conversion and a penalty by Jack O’Mullane had the visitors 10-0 ahead at half time.
Denis McCarthy opened Skibbereen’s account with a penalty, but O’Mullane replied immediately with a penalty to maintain their ten point advantage.
McCarthy kicked two further penalties but Galbally held out for victory.
The semi final line up will see Clonmel at home to Richmond who received a walk over from Kilfeacle.
Galbally will be away to the winners of the Clanwilliam v St. Senan’s quarter final tie.
Abbeyfeale continued their unbeaten run with a 27-12 home win over Kinsale in the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Shield. Dean Enright and Michael Enright were try scorers for Abbeyfeale and Tom Hassett kicked five penalties and one conversion.
Pat O’Regan and Barry McQuaid replied with tries for Kinsale and Sean Kingston kicked a penalty.
A last minute try from Alan Longford converted by Ian Jones earned Cobh Pirates a narrow 25-20 win over Presentation at Rathuard. Jack Hickey and Dave McAuliffe were the Pirates’ other try scorers and Jones added another conversion and two penalties.
Shane O’Brien and Gareth Airey were try scorers for Presentation and Craig Airey converted both and also added two penalties.
In a thrilling game at Castleisland, Thurles defeated the home side 32-20. Nicky Irwin, Joey Kelly, Shane Moloney and Larry O’Gorman scored tries for Thurles and Aidan Dwyer kicked three conversions and two penalties.
Castleisland replied with two tries from Matthew Ahern and Daniel Casey and Brian Leonard got one each. Willie Casey added two conversions and two penalties.
Mallow defeated Ballincollig 26-10 at Tanner Park. Luke O’Brien and Garreth Barry scored tries for Mallow and O’Brien converted both and kicked four penalties. Kevin
Hennessy replied with a try for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland added a conversion and a penalty.
The semi final line up will see Mallow at home to Abbeyfeale and Thurles will entertain Cobh Pirates. These games are scheduled for the 20th December.
Fermoy defeated Douglas-Carrigaline 16-11 in the quarter final of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup. Dylan Lacey and John McCarthy scored tries for Fermoy and Michael McSweeney kicked two penalties. Christy O’Donovan replied with a try for the visitors and Padraig McSweeney added two penalties.
Corca Dhuibhne defeated Killarney 24-17 in a Kerry derby at Ballydavid. Mikey Flannery Ciaran O’Coilleain and Billy O’Connor scored tries for Kerry Gaeltacht side and Seamus Moriarty converted all three and also kicked a penalty.
Brian O’Sullivan, Peter Kelly and Alan Mulligan were try scorers for Killarney and Michael Sheahan kicked one conversion.
Youghal were 31-0 home winners over Killorglin. Aaron Daly, Keith McCarthy, Alan Frahill O’Connor, Scott O’Sullivan and Killian Daly were try scorers for Youghal and McCarthy kicked three conversions.
The semi final line up is Corca Dhuibhne at home to Youghal and Fermoy will play the winners of the Bantry Bay Crosshaven tie.
These games are scheduled for 13th December.
In the Junior 2 League South Highfield defeated Iveragh 29-22. Aidan Burke (2), James Sheehan and Ben Glavin were Highfield’s try scorers and Darragh O’Keeffe kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Shandon defeated Cobh Pirates 26-8 with tries from Sean Keane and Conor Buckley. Barry Leahy converted both tries and kicked three penalties. Buckley also added a drop goal.
