Newcastle West closed the gap to two points on leaders Clonmel at the top of the Munster Junior League, as Clonakilty recorded a surprise bonus point win away to Richmond.
There was a thriller of a game at Jim Slattery Park where Newcastle West defeated the home side St. Senan’s 32-29 thanks to a last minute drop goal from Tommy Kelliher. Newcastle West raced into a 10-0 lead with a try from Sean Murphy and a conversion and penalty by Sean Herlihy. Aidan McMahon opened Senan’s account with a try but the visitors responded with a Kelliher try which Herlihy converted for a 17-5 lead. A Dale O’Loughlin penalty and conversions of tries by Brian Collins and Conor Lynch had the Clare side 22-17 ahead at half-time. A Tom Cronin try converted by O’Loughlin extended Senan’s lead to 29-17.
