Junior Roundup And Results

The Junior competitive season got underway this weekend with several local cup competitions beginning.
Cork County Cup holders Bandon began their defence with a 24-10 away win over Muskerry. Conall Bromwich, Michael Beecher, Gearoid O’Leary and Rob O’Sullivan scored tries for Bandon and Rhys Harold kicked two conversions. Shane O’Riordan replied with a try for Muskerry and Jonathan Buckley kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Bandon will now face Kanturk next week after the Duhallow side defeated Cobh Pirates 19-13. Conor O’Sullivan, Mike Bradley and Con Cremin were the Kanturk try scorers and Paul O’Keeffe kicked two conversions. Ian O’Donovan and David Chandler replied with tries for Cobh and Ian Jones added a penalty.
Skibbereen defeated Youghal 38-10 with tries from Donal Collins, Dave Jennings, Rory Hone, Mike Limerick, Greg O’Mahony and Sean Minihane. Denis McCarthy kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Clonakilty will travel to Skibbereen next week after their 58-0 home win over Old Christians. Ogie Scannell and Olan Deane each scored two tries for the winners and Peter Shallow, Shane Scannell, Daniel Murphy and Eoin O’Neill got one each with Mark Purcell kicking six conversions and two penalties.
Richmond defeated Abbeyfeale 24-19 in the opening round of the Transfield Cup. Pat Tuite, Gearoid Phelan and Keelan Stephenson (2) were Richmond’s try scorers and Brian Mullins kicked two conversions.
Richmond will be away to Thomond next week after Thomond defeated U.L. Bohemian 19-5.
Shannon overcame Bruff 38-0 and will travel to Old Crescent next week.
Bantry Bay defeated Douglas 17-5 in the opening round of the O’Neill Cup. Andre Polivka, Gareth Murphy and Donal Hutchinson scored tries for Bantry and Polivka added a conversion.
Highfield began their Dennehy Cup campaign with a 37-7 away win over Muskerry. Alan Stack, David Murphy, Brian Feehely, Eoin Keating, Alan Spillet and Max Bourin scored tries for Highfield and Dave Eustace kicked a penalty and two conversions.
