Junior Rugby Preview 3rd October

It is a quite weekend on the Junior one rugby scene with only three competitive games listed a week before the Munster Junior League commences.

The big game is the all Tipperary clash in the second semi final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup when Clonmel entertain Cashel to decide who will meet Crosshaven in the decider.

Cashel are already showing that they will be the favourites to regain their Munster Junior League title they lost last season and that will guarantee them Senior rugby in the All Ireland League next season.

Clonmel go into this tie after suffering a heavy defeat away to Clonakilty last week in the ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup. In fairness to Clonmel they did field a weakened side due to injuries. They will hope to be back to full strength but it will take a big effort if they are to reach the decider.

The first piece of silverware will be decided at Thurles when Presentation and WaterfordCity meet in the final of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup. This will be a big day for Presentation as they have been the poor relations of Limerick city rugby in recent times. The club has embarked on a youth policy and are now beginning to field sides at Under Age level and a win would be a big boost.

Waterford City have fallen on hard times in recent years since the time they were a First Division Junior club back in the mid Nineties. They should have the experience to come out on top in this encounter in what should be an exciting contest.

Skibbereen entertain Charleville in a second round tie in the Cork County Cup and the holders will be expected to see off the challenge of the North Cork side with some thing to spare.

The Munster Seconds League commences with games in both North and South Munster.

Elsewhere the Gleeson League and South Munster Junior Two League commences.

History will be made when two sides from South Kerry will play in the Junior Two League Show for the first time. Kenmare who last fielded an adult side back in the late thirties start with a home tie against Traleewhile Iveragh the newest club in Munster who will be based in Caherciveen make the short journey to Killarney. Their will be great interest to see how these sides shape up in the coming months.
