Skibbereen are the new leaders in Division One of the Munster Junior League on what was a quite weekend on the rugby front.

With Crosshaven’s home game with leaders Galbally put back to November 27th Skibbereen took full advantage to go top with a 10-8 victory, after Clonmel lost their unbeaten record with a surprising 16-3 home defeat by Kanturk.

Skibbereen raced into an early lead against St. Senan’s at Jim Slattery Park with a try from John O’Sullivan and a conversion and penalty by David Shannon. Six minutes into the second half Declan Collins kicked a penalty for the home side and two minutes from time Barry Murphy got in for a Senan’s try. Collins was off target with the conversion and then saw a penalty effort in injury time fall short.

Kanturk ended Clonmel’s unbeaten league record with a 16-5 win at the Tipperary venue. The home side were very indisciplined and gave away nineteen penalties, thirteen in the opening half and six after the break. Playing into the wind Darragh Meade kicked a first half penalty for a 3-0 interval lead for Kanturk. Midway through the second half Paul Cotter scored a try for the visitors and Meade converted. Fifteen minutes from time Dave O’Gorman got in for a Clonmel try, but two penalties from Meade in the final five minutes secured the points for Kanturk which sees them move three points off the lead.

Waterpark are now just a point behind the leaders after their 24-11 away win over Old Christians at Rathcooney. A try from Alistair McCormack and a John Flynn penalty had the visitors 8-3 ahead at half time. Conor Mangan kicked the penalty for the home side. Colin Walsh added a second try for Waterpark and Flynn converted and also added three further penalties. Stuart Lee replied with a try for Old Christians and Noel Finneran kicked a penalty.

Richmond are two points behind the leaders after they travelled to Kerry and defeated Tralee 15-3. The Limerick side led 10-0 at half time with tries from Garrett O’Hanlon and Sean Bennett. Brian Mullins kicked a penalty for Tralee six minutes into the second half, but Bennett added a third try for the visitors. Mike O’Friel denied Richmond a bonus point when he knocked on going over the line in the final minute.

Clanwilliam collected maximum points with a 38-6 away win over bottom side Thurles. Brian Kissane opened the scoring with a penalty for the visitors but two penalties by Jason Moore had Thurles 6-3 ahead after twenty minutes. Kissane kicked two further penalties to leave the score 9-6 at half time. Two tries from Pauric Ryan and one each by Kieran Merrigan and Bryan O’Rahelly secured the bonus point for Clan’. Kissane kicked two conversions and a penalty and Derek Shiels also added a conversion.

Kilfeacle recorded their first win of the campaign with a 10-3 away win over Cobh Pirates. Ian Burns scored a try for the winners and Mark Butler kicked a conversion and penalty. Mark Chandler replied with a penalty for the home side.

The Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Shield Final between Newcastle West and Presentation fixed for Charleville was postponed due to a tragic death in the Newcastle West club.

Dolphin defeated Highfield 15-13 in the Munster Seconds League South with Eamon Mills kicking five penalties for the Musgrave Park side.

Midleton defeated Cashel 16-3 at the Towns Park. Kieran Burns scored a try, conversion and two penalties for the winners and Paul Daly also added a penalty.

In the North Munster Seconds League there were big wins for the away sides. Garryowen defeated Nenagh Ormond 35-8, Shannon were 37-21 winners over Thomond at Fitzgerald Park and at Bruff the home side lost to Young Munster 29-7.

Dolphin Coach Clare Rigney saw her charges win the Muskerry (O’Sullivan) Cup final with a 5-0 win over her former side Sunday’s Well at Ballyanly. Gary Ross scored the all important try in the first half with a fine run from inside his own Twenty Two.
