Junior Rugby Round-Up

16th October 2016 By Munster Rugby

The leaders of both Division 1 and 2 of the Munster Junior League were both defeated in the opening round of their respective Cup competitions.

Division 1 leaders Clonmel were defeated 21-6 by Bandon in the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup.
This was sweet revenge for Bandon who lost away to Clonmel 21-18 in their opening league game this season.
Sean Óg Murphy opened the scoring with a penalty for Bandon but Conor Cooney levelled for the visitors.
Murphy added another penalty and a try by Olan Crowley gave Bandon an 11-3 half-time lead.
Cooney kicked a second penalty for Clonmel but Bandon finished the stronger and tries from Phillip Murphy and Gareth Burton saw them advance to a home meeting with holders Richmond in the quarter finals.

Richmond travelled to Cobh and defeated the home side 24-7.
Tries from Sami Farag, Kealan Stephenson and a penalty try, all converted by Tadgh Bennett inside the opening ten minutes gave Richmond a 21-0 lead.
Cobh had a try from Aaron Flynn late in the game which Ian Jones converted and Bennett completed the scoring with a penalty.

A late rally by Galbally saw them defeat Clanwilliam 22-12 at the Co. Limerick venue. A try by Michael Donovan and Aidan Noonan and a conversion by Jack O’Mullane saw them race into an early 12-0 lead.
Clanwilliam hit back with tries from Kieran O’Donnell and Graham Roche and a Niall Leahy conversion to level midway through the second half.
Galbally finished the stronger and tries by Donovan and Brendan Childs saw them book their quarter-final place where they will meet Kilfeacle.

The Tipperary side proved too strong for Old Christians at Rathcooney running out 27-13 winners.
The visitors lead 17-0 at half-time with tries from Darren Lowry and Jamie Heuston with Shane Looby converting both and kicking a penalty.
Kilfeacle were awarded a penalty try after the break and Looby converted and also added a penalty.
