Junior Rugby Round-Up & Results

Kanturk extend their lead at the top of the Munster Junior League as weather disrupts the weekend program yet again.

With only three games remaining (Skibbereen, Muskerry home and Galbally away) Kanturk are closing in on their first Munster Junior League title after their 19-5 away win over Waterpark. They led 12-5 at half time with tries from Sean Cremin and Dan McCabe and a conversion by Stephen McAulliffe. Hugh Carolan scored Waterpark’s try. The only score of the second half was a try from Mark Healy which McAulliffe converted.

Kilfeacle eased their relegation worries with a 28-10 bonus point victory away to Skibbereen. Diarmuid O’Donnell, Mossy Morrissey, Stephen Flood and Shane Luby were try scorers for the Tipperary side and Looby kicked a conversion and two penalties. David Shannon replied with a try for the home side and Ger Hurley converted and also added a penalty.

Mallow remain rooted to the bottom of the table after their 19-5 home defeat by Cobh Pirates. A try by Conor Foley converted by Greg Higgins had the Pirates 7-5 ahead at half time. Chris O’Regan scored Mallow’s try. Foley and Kevin Allen added further tries for the visitors and Higgins converted one.

Three of the four sides battling it out for promotion from the Second Division all won with bonus point victories.
A try by Feargal Hallissey and a Paudie Sheahan penalty was not enough for Killarney who went down to leaders St. Senan’s 20-8. Tries from Stephen Ryan, Brian Collins, Ian Fitzgerald and Tom Cronin ensured a bonus point victory for the Clare side.

Second placed Kinsale recorded a 33-0 home win over Castleisland. David Kingston (2), Joe Lyons, Brian Egan, Peter Murphy and Robin O’Flynn were Kinsale’s try scorers and Sean Kingston kicked a penalty.
Bandon kept up their challenge with a 27-3 home win over Ennis. Gearoid Crowley, Gearoid O’Leary, Conor Barry and Tim Crowley scored tries for Bandon and Richard Walsh added a penalty and two conversions. David Murphy replied with a penalty for Ennis.

Crosshaven eased their relegation worries with an 11-6 home win over Waterford City. Conor Dunlea scored a try for the winners and Ian Smith added two penalties. John Flynn kicked two penalties for the Suirsiders.

Abbeyfeale ended Dungarvan’s unbeaten run in Division Three after their 27-5 home win. A penalty from Thomas Hassett gave Abbeyfeale a 3-0 interval lead. Michael Roche and Brian Murphy scored tries for the winners who were also awarded a penalty try. Hassett converted all three and Matt Rabille replied with a try for Dungarvan.

Carrigaline kept their promotion challenge alive with a 24-0 home win over Dunmanway-Bantry Bay. Peter Kelleher contributed a try and two conversions to Carrigaline’s tally and Donnacha Kiely, Ray O’Donoghue and Tony O’Keeffe also scored tries.
