With just half of the Junior League program postponed, Clonmel were crowned Munster Junior League Champions for a record third successive time and Waterpark are assured of the Second Division title and promotion.
Nine of the eighteen scheduled Junior League games were cancelled.
Clonmel moved their home game with Abbeyfeale to Clanwilliam Park and defeated Abbeyfeale 21-5 to ensure they will be playing in the All Ireland Junior Interprovincial Championship trophy next month.
Clonmel led 7-0 at half time with a try from Alex Sheehan which Conor Cooney converted in thirty fifth minute. A try from Ronan Crosse on fifty seven minutes which Cooney converted made it 14-0.
Abbeyfeale hit back with a try by Pat Brislane but five minutes from time Crosse ensured victory with his second try and Cooney added the extras.
A last minute drop goal by Olan Crowley earned Bandon a 31-29 home win over Clanwilliam. The Tipperary side had a bonus point by half time as they led 29-17. Vivian Grisewood, Brian Kissane, Bryan O’Rahelly and Niall Leahy all scored tries for the visitors and Leahy kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Scott Mogford, Gareth Burton and Gearoid Crowley were try scorers for Bandon. Olan Crowley added two penalties and Kerry Desmond kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Galbally defeated Old Christians 26-14. Paddy Naughton and Niall McCarthy scored tries for the Rathcooney side and Ryan O’Connell converted both.
Clonakilty assured themselves of their place in the top flight next season after their 22-17 home win over Cobh Pirates. The home side led 22-10 at the interval with two tries from Shane Scannell and one by Ross Cantwell. Mark Purcell kicked two conversions and a penalty. Liam McCarthy replied with a try for the Pirates and Ian Jones converted and also added a penalty.
A second try by McCarthy which Jones converted ensured a losing bonus point for Cobh.
St. Mary’s defeated Waterford City 22-7 at Grove Island in Division Two with tries from Cian Ryan, Greg Barry and Matthew Hickey. Adam Guerin kicked two conversions and a penalty. Dave O’Connor was Waterford City’s try scorer and Micheal Hayes converted.
Mary’s failure to get a bonus point means that Waterpark are crowned Second Division champions and will be back in the top flight after an absence of one year.
Youghal moved ahead of St. Mary’s into second place as a result of their 31-19 bonus point home win against Ballincollig.
Scott O’Sullivan, Tomás O’Neill, Stephen Kelly and Aaron Daly scored tries for Youghal, who were also awarded a penalty try. Keith McCarthy kicked three conversions.
Michael Goggin, Brian McCarthy and Michael O’Shea replied with tries for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland added two conversions.
Thurles kept their outside hopes of promotion alive with a 12-3 home win over Thurles. Gerry McCormack and Luke Kelly scored tries for Thurles and Aidan O’Dwyer added a conversion. Ben O’Neill replied with a penalty for Tralee.
Castleisland ensured their Second Division status with a 26-7 home win over Mallow under lights on Saturday night. Kieran Downey, Mikey Cronin, William Casey and Colm Stack were Castleisland’s try scorers and Brian Leonard kicked three conversions.
Only one of the scheduled four quarter final promotion play offs in Division Three went ahead which saw Dungarvan defeated Fermoy 17-12.
Killian Corkery and Pa Connors scored tries for Dungarvan and David Hickey converted both and also added a penalty which saw the home side lead 17-0 at half time.
Pa Leahy and Eddie O’Connell replied with tries for Fermoy and Dylan Lacey kicked a conversion.
