Victories for Richmond and Kanturk at top of Division 1 of Munster Junior League as six sides still battling to avoid the drop to Division 2.

Leaders Richmond hold a three point margin and also have a game in hand to second placed Kanturk following their hard earned 17-5 away win over battling St. Senan’s. The visitors led 12-5 at half time with Gearoid Phelan and Jonathan Tully scoring tries and Brian Mullins kicked a conversion. Stephen Ryan replied with a try for the home side. Mike Kelleher scored a third try for Richmond five minutes from time to secure the points.

Kanturk bounced back from their defeat by Tullamore last week with a 24-13 away win over Cobh Pirates. A try by Brendan Kelleher and a conversion and penalty by Dara Meade gave Kanturk a 10-0 half time lead. Luke McCabe and Phillippe Trippier added tries after the break and Meade converted both. Kevin Allen and Alan Langford replied with tries for Cobh and Eoin Geary kicked a penalty.

Bottom side Crosshaven had a surprising 17-6 home win over Skibbereen. Darren O’Keeffe scored two tries for the winners and Ian Smith converted both and also added a penalty. Steve Hansel replied with two penalties for the visitors.

Clanwilliam are now propping up the table after Old Christians had to rely on a penalty from Stuart Lee in the last play of the game to defeat the Tipperary side 16-15 at Rathcooney. Peter Whelan scored a try for the winners and Lee contributed a conversion and three penalties. David Quinlan replied with two tries for Clanwilliam and Brian Kissane kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Waterpark eased their relegation troubles with an 11-9 away win over Newcastle West. A try by Richard Upton and a penalty by Geoff Deegan had the visitor 8-0 ahead at the interval. Alan Roche replied with three penalties for the home side and Deegan kicked a second penalty for Waterpark.

Galbally are now involved in the relegation battle after they lost away to St. Mary’s 21-13. The winners were awarded a penalty try and Kevin South also scored a try with Ben Sargent kicking three penalties and a conversion. James Taylor replied with two tries for Galbally and Craig Airey kicked a penalty.

Tralee moved up to third place with a 9-5 home win over Kilfeacle. Two penalties from Dan Clark gave Tralee a 6-0 interval lead. Clark added a third penalty for the winners and Sean McGrath replied with a try for Kilfeacle.

Muskerry and Mallow moved a step closer to promotion from Division Two. Leaders Muskerry defeated Newport 17-6 at Ballyanly. Muskerry were awarded a penalty try and also had a try from Liam O’Donovan and Jonathan Buckley converted both and also added a penalty.

Second placed Mallow closed the gap to two points after their 46-7 away win over Dungarvan. The visitors led 22-0 at half time with tries from Leonard Browne and brothers Chris and Leo O’Regan. Andy Cashman converted two and also kicked a penalty. Further tries by Neil Lucey, Chris O’Regan, Peter Weedle and Leo O’Regan and two conversions by Cashman saw the visitors win out. David Hickey replied with a try and conversion for Dungarvan.

Castleisland moved up to third place after their 16-0 home win over Kinsale. Shane O’Connell and Paudie Cronin scored tries for the Kerry side and Con Reynolds kicked two penalties.

Bandon had a surprise 13-8 away win over Ennis. Peter Galvin scored a try for the winners and Eoin O’Donovan kicked a conversion and two penalties. Sean O’Flanagan replied with a try for the Clare side and Dave Murphy kicked a penalty.

Youghal eased their relegation worries with a 27-12 home win over Carrick-on-Suir. Sean Brosnan scored two tries for the winners and Alan Frahill and Stephen Twohig got one each. Jonathon Ormond kicked two conversions and a penalty. Dermot Lanigan and JP Wallace replied with tries for Carrick’ and James Wallace added a penalty.

Thurles had a 14-9 home win over Presentation. Joey Kelly and Lawrence O’Gorman scored tries for Thurles and O’Gorman converted both.

Killorglin collected maximum points with a 61-0 win over Kilrush to remain top of the Third Division. James Hayes, Peter Slattery, Mark Healy, Dave Coffey, Dave O’Sullivan, Enda Murphy and Chris O’Sullivan were try scorers for the Kerry side and Luke O’Shea and Trevor West kicked a few conversions.

Abbeyfeale caused an upset with a 13-12 away win over Waterford City. Michael Enright scored a try for the winners and Thomas Enright kicked a conversion and two penalties. Jason Power and Damien Kennedy replied with tries for Waterford and Conor Power kicked a conversion.

Fermoy moved up to second after a 37-18 home win over Charleville. The sides were level 6-6 at half time with Joe Lee kicking two penalties for Fermoy and Ryan Brennan replying with two for Charleville. Tries from David Calnan, Eddie O’Connell, John Roche, Jeffery Daly and Lee, three of which Lee converted earned the home side the points. Owen Doyle and Ciaran Browne replied with tries for Charleville and Brennan converted one.

Ballincollig kept their promotion chances alive with an 8-0 away win over Scariff. Padraig Flynn scored a try for the winners and Kevin Ryan added a penalty.
