The Munster Junior League enters the final straight with both Kilfeacle and Newcastle West in contention for honours as Killorglin complete their Division 3 campaign with ten wins from ten to be crowned champions.
A late try from David Jennings secured Skibbereen a losing bonus point as they battle relegation against leaders Kilfeacle who they hosted last Saturday as the Tipperary side came away with a 24-19 bonus point win to extend their lead at the top of the table. Willie Staunton contributed two tries and two conversions to his side’s tally with Brian Barlow and Kevin Doyle getting a try each. Dan Duggan, Kieran Shannon were Skibb’s other try scorers and Mattie Bushe kicked two conversions.
Newcastle West are the only other side that can catch Kilfeacle. They travelled to Bandon last Thursday night and came away with a 15-12 win thanks to five penalties from Sean Herlihy. Marcos Langleyze scored Bandon’s try and Ben Ridgeway kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Newcastle West trail Kilfeacle by nine points with a game in hand but wins for the Tipperary side in their last two games home to Clonakilty and away to Richmond will see them being crowned champions.
Mallow came from 8-0 down to beat Richmond with a bonus point in Limerick 26-13. Jimmy Glynn, Hugh Barry, Kenneth Mills and Gonzalo Pérez scored tries for Mallow and Glynn kicked three conversions as Mallow bid for a top four finish. Shane Halpin and Mike Kelleher replied with tries for Richmond and Brian Mullins kicked a penalty.
Clanwilliam defeated Crosshaven 17-12. Dave McCormack scored a try for the Tipperary side; Niall Leahy converted and added a penalty and they were also awarded a penalty try. Jack O’Connor scored a try for Crosshaven who were also awarded a last minute penalty try to secure a valuable losing bonus point.
In Division Two Kanturk have taken over top spot after their 43-26 away win at Fermoy. Conor O’Sullivan (2), Kieran Sexton, Conor Cremin, Eoin O’Callaghan, Barry Sherlock and Daithi Fitzpatrick were Kanturk’s try scorers and Cremin added four conversions. Fermoy secured a bonus point with tries from Eddie O’Connell, Tom Murphy, Conor Ahern and Andy Linehan. O’Connell added three conversions.
Charleville defeated Cobh Pirates 26-10. James O’Flynn score three tries for the north Cork side and PJ O’Connor got one. Jesse Smith kicked three conversions. Adam Devlin scored a try, conversion and a penalty for Cobh.
Thurles and Ballincollig played out a 10-10 draw. Eoghan O’Dwyer scored a try for Thurles and Nicky Irwin converted. Jack Flanagan added a penalty. Billy Newman scored Ballincollig’s try and Charlie Boland kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Killorglin were crowned Third Division champions after their 29-7 away win at Dunmanway and went through the campaign unbeaten. Timmy Lynch scored two tries for the winners and Fionan O’Sullivan, Stephen Cotter and Andrew O’Reilly got a try each. Luke O’Shea kicked two conversions. William Tyner was Dunmanway’s try scorer and Darragh McCarthy converted.
Ennis defeated Scariff 15-12 in the Clare derby. Evan McMahon gave Scariff a 5-3 interval lead. Eoghan Collins added a second try which Jason Monaghan converted.
Bantry Bay defeated Douglas-Carrigaline 43-12 with tries from Declan Coppinger, Gareth Murphy, Brian Keohane, Eoghan Power and two by Andre Polivka. Danny Hutchinson kicked five conversions and a penalty. Mark Healy and Mike Meehan replied with tries for Douglas-Carrigaline and Eoin Philpott kicked a conversion.
Youghal lost away to Waterford City 14-8. Kelvin Yellop scored Youghal’s try and Aaron Daly kicked a penalty.
