After a fifteen year gap Kilfeacle regained the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup with a 13-12 victory over Clonmel at Cashel.

This was Clonmel’s second defeat at this stage of the competition in the last three years as they have to wait another season to try and win their first major Junior title.

Kilfeacle were 13-0 ahead after fifty five minutes with a try from Jack O’Sullivan and a conversion and two penalties by Shane Luby. Clonmel rallied in the final quarter with tries from Neville Melbourne and David Joyce and a Danny Lyons conversion but it was not enough to deny Kilfeacle their third title.

Kinsale and Highfield secured their place in the semi finals of the Munster Junior Plate. Kinsale defeated Thomond 22-15 despite trailing 3-0 at half time to a penalty from Jeff Ryan. The home side scored three tries after the break with Frazer Hodgson getting two and Edouard Brouard-Lemaire one. Peter Murphy kicked two conversions and a penalty. Ryan and Frankie Daly replied with tries for the visitors and Ryan converted one of the tries.

Highfield defeated Bandon 28-17 at Old Chapel. Cillian O’Hagan scored two tries for the winners and Niall O’Driscoll and Paul Stack got one each. John Sheehan kicked two penalties and a conversion, Mark O’Driscoll replied with two tries for Bandon and Richard Milner converted both and also added a penalty.

In the semi finals Kinsale will be at home to either Garryowen or Waterpark, while Highfield will have home advantage against either Dolphin or Kilfeacle.

Fermoy and Newport will contest this season’s Munster Junior Bowl after victory in their semi final ties.
Fermoy caused a surprise at home to Charleville with a 12-9 victory. Three penalties by Joe Lee had Fermoy 9-0 ahead at half time. Lee added a fourth after the break and Charleville replied with three penalties from James Leahy.

Newport defeated Dungarvan 20-11 in the other semi final. Two penalties from Brian Collins and Micheal Ryan and a try by David Egan had Newport 17-0 ahead at half time.
A penalty from Michael Irwin and a try by Darrell Ryan brought Dungarvan back into the game. Ryan added his third penalty to secure the Tipperary side victory and Irwin completed the scoring with his second penalty for the home side.

Killarney booked their place in next weeks Division Three Munster Junior League play offs with a 24-5 home win over Corca Dhuibhne. Alan Mulligan, Adrian Hegarty, Brian O’Sullivan and Paudie Sheehan scored tries for Killarney and Sean Hickey kicked two conversions.

Killarney will now travel to Charleville in next week’s semi final and Castleisland will host Mallow in the other tie.

Cork Constitution booked their place in the semi finals of the Munster Seconds League with a 13-8 win over Bruff at Temple Hill. Tim Kenneally opened the scoring with a try for the home side but Ronan Kirby brought Bruff level with a try. A try by Conor Desmond gave Constitution a 10-5 lead at the break. Jonathon Forde reduced the deficit with a penalty for the visitors but Michael Keyes restored Con’s five point advantage with a penalty.

Con’ will now host Thomond in next week’s semi final and U.L Bohemian and U.C.C. will contest the other semi final.

U.L. Bohemian’s unbeaten run this season came to an end at Annacotty when Richmond defeated them 20-18 to win the Transfield Cup. A try by Michael Kelleher and a conversion, penalty and drop goal by Darragh Clancy gave Richmond a 13-5 half time lead. Luke Holmes scored a try for U.L. A try by Finbar Hogan converted by Clancy made sure of victory while Bohes replied with a try from Giles Boland and a conversion and two penalties from Aidan McNulty.

Skibbereen made amends for last season’s defeat by Cobh Pirates in the final of the Cork County Cup, when they knocked out the holders 27-0 on their own ground. Maurice O’Keeffe scored two tries for the winners, Donal Mehigan and Mark Kingston also crossed the line and Kingston kicked two conversions and a penalty.

U.C.C. and Lansdowne will contest this season’s Al Ireland Under 21 Cup Final for the Frazer McMullen trophy at Clonmel next weekend.

U.C.C. defeated Shannon 29-16 at Coonagh. Johnny Holland, Gavin Nugent and Brian Quill scored tries for the students and Andrew Burke kicked four penalties and a conversion.

In the other semi final Lansdowne came form 8-0 down to beat St. Mary’s College 9-8 at Templeville Road.

Cobh Pirates won the Junior Two League title for the second time with a 5-3 win over Dunmanway at Musgrave Park. All the scoring came in the opening half with Mark Kingston putting Dunmanway ahead with a penalty and a try by Conor O’Regan secured victory for the east Cork side.

Old Crescent won the McInerney Cup Final with a victory over Shannon at Coonagh.

Cork Constitution booked their place in the semi final of the Junior Two Cup South with a 14-3 away win over Bantry Bay. Pat Hughes scored the only try of the game for the visitors and Simon Barry kicked two penalties and a drop goal. Stephen Kelly replied with a penalty for Bantry.

Constitution will now face holders U.C.C. in the last four after the students defeated Old Christians 38-32 at Rathcooney.

The other semi final place will be between Sunday’s Well and Cobh Pirates after the ‘Well booked their place with a 16-9 home win over Tralee. Willie McCarthy scored two tries for the winners and Mark Hayes added two penalties.

U.C.C. advanced to the semi final of the Junior Three Cup with a 22-17 home win over Fermoy. Colin Wong scored two tries for the students and Tom Carroll got one. Barry Power kicked a penalty and two conversions.

A try by Brian Curtin and a penalty by Kieran Glynn helped Bandon to an 8-6 home win over Kinsale in the Dave Dineen Cup.

Highfield defeated Dolphin 32-15. Tom McCarthy scored two tries for the winners; Mark Cunningham got a try, conversion and penalty. Darragh Buckley scored a try and conversion and Billy Collins also got a try.

Clonakilty booked their place in the semi final with a 16-5 home win over Muskerry. Mike Murphy and Shane Walsh scored tries for the winners and James O’Driscoll kicked two penalties.
