Progress was made in the various County Competitions over the weekend.
Transfield Cup holders Newcastle West advanced to the semi-finals after a 30-18 win over Thomond at Liam Fitzgerald Park. James Kelly scored two tries for the winners and Michael Bourke one. Charlie O’Doherty kicked three conversions and three penalties. Dean Cronin and Adam Guerin replied with tries for Thomond and Guerin kicked a conversion and a penalty and Evan O’Connor also added a penalty.
Newcastle West will face Old Crescent in the semi-finals after the Rosbrien side defeated St. Mary’s 12-7 where Jason Aylward scored the winning try which Paul Collins converted.
Richmond booked their place in the semi-finals with a 21-7 win over Shannon at Canal Bank. Riann O’Dwyer, Jeffrey McNamara and Jack O’Hanlon scored tries for Richmond. Brian Mullins kicked a penalty and Tadhg Bennett added a drop goal.
Richmond will be away to St. Senans in the other semi-final after the Clare side defeated Abbeyfeale 26-20.
Mallow and Muskerry will contest this year’s Cork County Cup Final.
Mallow were 26-0 home winners over Clonakilty. Eoghan Barry, Dylan Walsh, , Dan Lucey and Owen Glynn were Mallow’s try scorers and Stuart Henderson kicked three conversions.
Muskerry defeated Old Christians 22-14 in the other semi-final at Rathcooney. Mark Jones scored a try for Muskerry and Robert Cahill kicked a conversion and five penalties. Sean Kelly replied with a try for the home side and John Marnell added three penalties.
Charleville defeated holders Kinsale 24-15 to book their place in the final of the O’Neill Cup. Colm McMahon and Jake Madigan scored tries for the North Cork side and Jessie Smith kicked four penalties and a conversion. Ritchie Callanan, Jordan Wright and Jack Walsh replied with tries for Kinsale.
Ballincollig booked their place in the final with a 23-17 home win over Youghal. Jason O’Connor, Gary Fox and Liam Cahill scored tries for Ballincollig and Shane Buckley kicked two conversions, a penalty and a drop goal. Tom Sheehan and Rob O’Dea replied with tries for Youghal and Cillian Daly converted both and also added a penalty.
Killorglin booked their place in the final of the McElligott Cup with a 36-26 away win over Chorca Dhuibhne. Jamie O’Leary scored two tries for the winners and Darragh O’Shea, Timmy Lynch, Rob Lynch and James Byrne also scored tries. Luke O’Shea added three conversions.
