As a result of the top of the table clash in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League between Kanturk and St. Mary’s being postponed because of a bereavement in the Limerick Club, both Clonmel and Newcastle West moved into top spot on points with Clonmel leading on games won.

Clonmel who started in fourth place in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League defeated Tralee 28-15. Three penalties from Conor Cooney to one by Garrett Walsh had the Tipperary side 9-3 ahead at half time. Tries from Cooney, Greg Carroll and Frankie Quinlan and two conversions by Cooney extended Clonmel’s lead to 28-3. Tralee rallied with tries from Eoghan O’Carroll and James Byrnes and a conversion from Walsh.

Newcastle West staged a late rally to share the spoils with Clonakilty after a 25-25 draw. Clonakilty led 17-12 at half time with tries from Ethan Jennings, Peter Shallow and two conversions and a penalty from Joe Lee to four penalties by Sean Herlihy. A try from Ger McCarthy and a second Lee penalty extended the home side’s advantage before Newcastle West rallied with a try from Gary O’Donnell and a conversion and two penalties by Herlihy to earn a draw.

Cobh Pirates moved into fifth place after their 46-10 home win over Old Christians. Ciaran Duignan and Greg Higgins each scored two tries for the Pirates and John Kidney, Jack Hickey and Kevin Allen also scored tries. Tom Rice kicked a conversion and Higgins added four conversions and two penalties. Peter Twohig replied with a try for Christians and Stuart Lee kicked a conversion and a penalty.

A last minute penalty from Geoff Deegan earned Waterpark a 21-21 draw away to Muskerry. Tries from Scott Hornibrook and Paddy Kiersey and two penalties and a conversion by Deegan has Waterpark 18-3 ahead at half time. Dermot Murphy and Pat Rourke replied with tries for Muskerry and Darragh Masterson kicked a conversion, drop goal and two penalties.

Kilfeacle defeated Mallow 22-14 with tries from Charles Walsh, Pat Ryan and Darren Lowry. Philly Hogan kicked two conversions and Lowry added a drop goal. Sam Holt and Luke O’Brien replied with tries for Mallow and Andy Cashman converted both.

Bottom side Galbally defeated Skibbereen 15-10. Brendan O’Halloran and Niall McNamara scored tries for the winners and Sean Bourke kicked a conversion and a penalty. Ivan Jennings and Shane Newman replied with tries for Skibbereen.

St Senan’s remain top of Division Two after their 41-3 home win over Waterford City. Two tries from Niall Moffett and one each by Alan Skerritt, Warren Kelly and Fernando Gallant for the Clare side and Declan Rowe added five conversions and two penalties.

Kinsale moved into second place with a 43-14 away win over Newport. Richard and David Kingston each scored two tries for Kinsale and Sean Kingston, Damian Kozik and William Crowley got one each. Sean Kingston added four conversions.

A last minute penalty earned Clanwilliam a 16-13 home win over Bandon. Chris Doyle scored a try for the Tipperary side and Robbie Doyle added a conversion and three penalties. Bandon had a try from Jack Murphy and Richard Walsh kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Thurles continued their promotion challenge with a 36-24 home victory over Killorglin. Eoghan O’Dwyer scored three tries for the winners and Joe Kelly and David Maher also got ties. O’Dwyer kicked four penalties and a conversion. Killorglin replied with tries from Darren Curtayne, Tony Lynch and Barry Sheehan. Trevor West kicked three penalties.

Killarney edged out Presentation 10-9 with a try, conversion and a penalty from Paudie Sheahan. Mark Phair kicked three penalties for Presentation.

Castleisland collected maximum points with a 20-9 home win over Crosshaven under the lights on Saturday night. Kieran Downey and Matthew Ahern each scored two tries for the Kerry side.

Bottom side Ennis won their first game with a 16-10 home win over Youghal. Cian Murphy and Declan Forde scored tries for Ennis and David Murphy kicked two penalties. Killian Daly replied with a try for Youghal and Keith McCarthy kicked a conversion and a penalty.

The top of the table clash in Division Three saw Ballincollig extend their advantage at the top with a 13-9 home win over Abbeyfeale. Thomas Hassett kicked three penalties for Abbeyfeale.

New comers to Junior rugby Carrigaline won their local derby with a last minute try from Rory O’Callaghan which Sean Lucey converted to give them a 19-18 victory away to Douglas. Donnacha Kiely kicked four penalties for Carrigaline and Douglas replied with tries from Barry Hynes, Ronan Barry and Eoin Philpott with Philpott also adding a penalty.

Dungarvan moved up to second place after their 17-12 home win over Charleville. David Hickey scored a try for the winners and Conor Foley kicked four penalties. Conor Cronin replied with four penalties for Charleville.

Fermoy defeated Dunmanway-Bantry Bay 17-8. Mark Cotton, Ian Pratt and Emmet Sweeney were try scorers for Fermoy and Sweeney added a penalty. Pat Daly replied with a try for the home side and Padraic O’Donovan kicked a penalty.

Scariff defeated Kilrush 21-13. A try from Robbie Madden and a conversion and a penalty by Dan Downey gave Scariff a 10-7 interval lead. Paudge Kelsey added a second try for the winners after the break and Downey kicked two penalties.

Mitchelstown defeated Shandon 20-12 in their Junior Two League clash at Whitechurch. Dave Sheehan, Paul Horgan and Patrick Molloy scored tries and Molloy added a conversion and a penalty.

Bandon ran in seven tries in their 45-14 away win over U.C.C. Pat Prendergast, Ross Bateman, Eoin Verling, Giles Murphy, Scott Kingston, Liam Dempsey and Rob Wilmot scored tries for Bandon and Olan Crowley kicked five conversions.
