Holders U.L. Bohemian and Young Munster are through to the semi finals of the Munster Junior Cup.
Defending champions U.L. Bohemian must now be firm favourites to retain their title after yesterdays 37-11 win over Skibbereen at Annacotty. The home side led 20-6 at half time and had tries from Harry Stackpole, Ian Condell, Darren Moloney and Giles Boland. Aidan McNulty converted four tries and added three penalties. Mark Kingston kicked two penalties for the visitors and Sean O’Neill got a try.
Young Munster overcame Galbally at Clifford Park 22-13. A try by Cian Clohessy and a penalty by Declan Bannon gave the home side an 8-0 interval lead. Niall McNamara opened Galbally’s account with a drop goal and despite tries from Richard Stapleton and Brendan Childs it was not enough as the home side replied with tries from Liam Og Murphy and Ken Hanley and a conversion each from Bannon and Ian Cross.
Clanwilliam and Bruff will have to meet again after the sides finished level 15-15 at Clanwilliam Park. Willie O’Dwyer brought Clanwilliam level in the closing minutes with a drop goal but than four minutes into injury time he saw another effort miss the target. O’Dwyer was the home side’s scorer with four penalties and a drop goal. Andrew White and Peter Malone scored tries for Bruff and Jonathon Ford kicked a conversion and penalty. The replay will take place on Sunday 28th March.
The last remaining quarter final tie between Cashel and Old Christians will also go ahead on the last Sunday in March after the Second Division side booked their spot in the last eight after a 23-18 away win over Crosshaven. Paul McGrath and Alan O’Connell scored tries for the home side and Aidan Tobin kicked two conversions and three penalties. Bobby Rodgers and Damian O’Shea replied with tries for the home side and Paul Memory kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Only four of the Munster Junior Plate ties went ahead with four sides Ballincollig, Garryowen, Kinsale and Thurles all receiving walk overs.
Bandon had a narrow 22-21 home win over St. Senan’s. Sam Kingston and Mark O’Driscoll scored two tries each for the winners and Patrick O’Donnell kicked a conversion. Darragh McCoy and Pa Ryan replied with tries for the Clare side and Jake Egan kicked three penalties and a conversion.
Kilfeacle defeated Clonakilty 38-12. Jack O’Sullivan scored three tries for the winners and Tom Tierney, Gerry O’Brien and Shane Casey got one each. Shane Luby converted four of the tries. Cathal Kirby and Paddy Ryan replied with tries for the visitors and Matt Kirby kicked a conversion.
A Shane Flynn penalty was not enough for Castleisland who lost 21-3 away to Waterpark.
Dolphin and Waterford City played out a 23-23 draw at Musgrave Park. Dave O’Connor and Lenny Power scored tries for the visitors and Aaron Foskin kicked two conversions and three penalties.
Newcastle West defeated Muskerry 20-10 in their Second Division game in the Munster Junior League. Muskerry led 7-6 at half time with a try by Tom Ahern converted by Pat Dennehy. Tommy Kelleher kicked two penalties for the home side. The West Limerick outfit added tries from Christy Berkley and Donal O’Sullivan both converted by Kelleher to make sure of victory. Dennehy replied with a penalty for the visitors.
Abbeyfeale have moved into second place in Section A of the Third Division after their 23-3 away win over Corca Dhuibhne at Ballydavid. Robert Brown scored two tries and a penalty for the visitors and Kieran McCarthy and Tere Vickridge got a try each.
A dramatic try by the evergreen Vivian O’Callaghan earned Killorglin a surprising 18-10 home win over Presentation, a result that ends the Limerick sides’ hopes of making the semi final play offs. The Kerry side led 13-3 at half time with a try by Roddy Healy and a conversion and two penalties by John Ahern.
Charleville moved a step closer to a semi final spot with a 13-6 home win over Carrick-on-Suir in section B. A penalty by Frankie Holly and a try by Ger Sheehan had the home side 8-3 ahead at the break. Damien Leahy added a try after the break to secure the points.
Richmond reached the final of the Transfield Cup with a 24-6 win over Shannon. The sides were level 6-6 at half time. Tries by Finbar Hogan and Pa Humphries and a conversion, three penalties and a drop goal by Wayne Murphy saw the newly crowned junior league champions advance.
Richmond also reached the final of the Gleeson League with a 20-6 victory over Kilfeacle.
Dunmanway and Cobh Pirates will meet in the Junior Two League South Final; Dunmanway defeated Dolphin 17-6 in their semi final. Matt Saunderson and Gordon Brett scored tries for the winners both of which were converted by Barry McCarthy and Damien Healy added a penalty.
Three penalties from Gordon Kerins looked like it was enough to send Tralee into the final as they led Cobh Pirates 9-6, but a try by Peter Mullins converted by Conor O’Regan gave the visitors a 13-9 victory. O’Regan had earlier kicked two penalties for the Pirates.
Ballincollig booked their place in the quarter finals of the Kelly Cup with a 54-0 home win over Crosshaven. Coleman Farrell, Robert Foulkes, Dave Baston, Bernard O’Brien, James McSwiney, Neill Murphy and Cian Shepherd were all try scorers for the winners.
Holders Bantry Bay began their defence with a 37-0 home win over Kanturk and will now face Dunmanway in the quarter finals.
Two penalties by Declan Bowler and one by Stephen O’Leary gave Cork Transport a 9-8 victory over Shandon in the McCarthy Cup at Whitechurch. Victor O’Sullivan replied with a try for the home side and Dan Hegarty kicked a penalty.
Ballincollig defeated Bandon 39-0 Darren Keohane, Willie Schubert and Harry Walsh scored two tries each for the winners. Ollie O’Sullivan got one and Andy Coughlan kicked two conversions.
U.C.C. defeated Dolphin 41-12 at Curaheen Road to qualify for the Frazer McMullen Under 21 Cup. Gavin Nugent scored two tries for the students and Daryl Foley, Joe Holland, Brian O’Callaghan and Damian Cahalane got one each. Johnny Holland kicked four conversions and a penalty.
Cork Constitution also qualified with a 34-6 win over Garryowen at Temple Hill.
It was a great day for Waterpark Youth section in the Avonmore Milk Under 19 and 17 League Finals at Clonmel. Waterpark defeated Young Munster 18-0 in the Under 19 Final and in the Under 17 final it it finished all square 17-17 with both Garryowen and Waterpark sharing the trophy but it is Waterpark who qualify for the All Ireland stages by virtue of the scoring rules.
