A good day for Junior clubs in the Munster Junior Cup as two games were cancelled due to the weather.

Holders Cork Constitution were the only senior club side to win against Junior club opposition at the weekend. The Temple Hill side travelled to Jim Slattery Park where they defeated St. Senan’s 29-0 in their first game in this season’s competition. First half tries from Philip O’Leary, Alan Ross, Brian Derham and Eoin O’Donnell and two Derham conversions gave the defending champions a 24-0 half time lead. Jayde Cruickshank scored a fifth try for winners after the break.

Tralee edged out Bruff 13-11 in a thrilling tie at the Kerry venue. A penalty from Ritchie McAuliffe and a try by Barry Enright gave Bruff an 8-3 interval lead. Daniel Clarke replied with a penalty for the home side. The awarding of a penalty try to Tralee proved the decisive factor and Clarke converted and Garreth Walsh also added a penalty. Bruff’s only response was a second penalty from McAuliffe.

Kinsale followed up their win over Thomond in the last round with another win over a Senior club side when they recorded an 11-3 home win over Midleton. A try by Joe Lyons and two penalties by Peter Murphy was enough for Kinsale who must now travel to Kilfeacle in the next round next week. Robert Colan-O’Leary replied with a penalty for the East Cork side.

League champions Richmond booked their place in the quarter finals with a 20-12 home win over Newcastle West. Despite playing into the wind in the first half Richmond led 10-7 at half time with a try from Michael Kelleher and a conversion and penalty by Brian Mullins to a try by James Kelly which Tommy Kelleher converted. Barry McNamara scored a second try for Richmond and Mullins converted and also added a penalty, while Newcastle West’s only response was a try from Michael Culhane.

Second Division Mallow defeated Waterpark 31-8. The North Cork side were dealt a cruel blow after four minutes when their reliable goal kicker Andy Cashman was forced to leave the field with an injury. A try by Shane Kelly and a penalty by Geoff Deegan gave Waterpark an 8-7 half time lead. Robbie Doyle scored a try for Mallow and Dave Walsh converted. A try by Michael Sweeney converted by Walsh put the home side ahead. Walsh kicked a penalty and two tries by Chris O’Regan with Walsh and Doyle each converting booked Mallow their place in round five.

Two games were postponed because of the weather. They were the Clonmel v Ennis tie and Cobh Pirates v Skibbereen game and both will be rescheduled for next week.

Bandon had a big 42-6 home win over Thomond in the Munster Junior Plate. Brian Ahern, Scott Kingston, Cathal Crowley, Aidan Slattery and Tim Crowley scored tries for Bandon and Cathal Crowley kicked four conversions and three penalties. Shane Maher replied with two penalties for Thomond.

Third Division leaders Killorglin travelled to Carrick-on-Suir and defeated the Second Division side 30-20 in a mud bath. Peter Slattery scored two tries for the Kerry side and John O’Sullivan, Chris O’Sullivan and Dave O’Sullivan each scored a try. Luke O’Shea added a conversion and a penalty. Adam O’Loughlin replied with two tries for Carrick’ and James Wallace kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Thurles defeated Dungarvan 17-5 to book a quarter final tie away to Bruff next week. Eoin Caulfield was Dungarvan’s try scorer.

Scariff booked their place in the final of the Munster Junior Bowl with a dramatic last minute penalty from Conor McNamara for a 6-3 home win over Douglas. Eoin Philpott gave Douglas the lead with a penalty in the second half and McNamara levelled with a penalty, before his last gasp winner.

Scariff will face Waterford City in the decider after the Suirsiders defeated Charleville 19-0. Damien Kennedy scored two tries for the winners and Conor Power one. Aaron Foskin added two conversions.

Iveragh caused a major upset in the Junior Two Cup South with a 6-5 home win over Dolphin. Brian O’Leary kicked two penalties for the Cahirciveen side and Larry Buckley replied with a try for Dolphin.

Dunmanway- Bantry Bay also caused a shock with a 10-6 home win over Muskerry in the Junior Three Cup South. Prionsais Cronin scored a try for the winners and Killian McCarthy kicked a conversion and a penalty.
