Junior Rugby Roundup

Weather again disrupted the weekend’s Junior program with five of the scheduled games postponed.

Of the nine league games that were rescheduled for this weekend, only three were again postponed, as clubs made every effort to get games played because they would lose home advantage if the fixtures were again put off.

In Division 1 of the Munster Junior League Richmond have moved back into second place, three points behind leaders Clonmel with a game in hand, after their 28-10 away win over Waterpark.
The home side raced into an early 10-0 lead with a penalty from Geoff Deegan and he converted a try by Scot Hornibrook. Richmond were 14-10 ahead at half time with tries from Gareth O’Hanlon and Dave O’Halloran both converted by Wayne Murphy.
Luke Kennedy and Johnny Moroney added further tries for the Limerick side and Murphy converted both.

Kilfeacle also kept their title challenge on track with a 20-15 away win over Newcastle West.
Sean Corbett put the home side ahead with a try after fifteen minutes, but David Kiersey replied with a try for Kilfeacle which Shane Looby converted.
Sean Herlihy and Looby exchanged penalties to leave Kilfeacle 10-8 ahead at half time.
The visitors extended their lead with a try from Isacco Peato but Newcastle West drew level when Sean McAulliffe touched down and Herlihy added the extras.
In the dying minutes of the game Diarmuid Carr scored a third try for Kilfeacle to earn them victory.

Galbally kept their hopes alive of a top four finish with a dramatic penalty in the tenth minute of injury time for a 14-12 win over Muskerry in a game that was moved to the Mahon from Muskerry’s ground in Ballyanly.
Galbally led 6-3 at half time. Stephen Hayes scored a try for Galbally and Bourke kicked three penalties. Jonathan Buckley replied with four penalties for the home side.

Cobh Pirates moved back into second place in Division Two, three points behind leaders Abbeyfeale after their 20-3 bonus point away victory in Tralee.
James Frahill, Tom Keavney, Richard O’Sullivan and Alan Langford scored tries for the Pirates and Ben O’Neill replied with a penalty for the Kerry side.

Waterford City had a comprehensive 51-0 home win over an under strength Castleisland side that were short several players who were unable to travel due to the weather.
Aidan Power, Damian Kennedy, Michael Hayes, Sean O’Mahony, Dave O’Connor and Ben Duggan scored tries for Waterford and Darren Walsh kicked six conversions and three penalties.

Fermoy defeated Killarney 13-8 in Division Three. The sides were level 3-3 at half time with Mike Sweeney kicking Fermoy’s penalty and Paudie Sheehan replied for the visitors. Brian O’Sullivan put Killarney ahead with a try but a try from Eddie O’Connell and a conversion and penalty by Sweeney saw the home side take the points.

St. Senan’s advanced to the semi finals of the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup where they will meet Galbally next week after their 14-10 away win over Clanwilliam. John Mulready opened the scoring with a try for Senan’s but Clanwilliam hit back with a try from Niall Leahy which he also converted. A Declan Rowe penalty had Senan’s 8-7 ahead at half time Rowe extended their lead with two penalties and Clanwilliam’s only reply was a late penalty from Leahy.

Three tries each from Joe White and Liam O’Connell helped Cork Constitution to a 54-5 win over Dolphin in the Munster Seconds League and secured them top spot in their group. Michael Clune, Michael Murphy and Rory Burke also scored tries for the winners and Jamie Murphy kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Bandon defeated Clonakilty 19-18 in the Junior Two League South. Tim Cummins and Billy Crowley scored tries for Bandon and Crowley kicked three penalties. Clonakilty replied with tries from Eamonn Barry and Kieran O’Driscoll and Ian O’Driscoll kicked a conversion and two penalties.
