Both of the early pace setters in Division One of the Munster Junior League failed to hold on to top spot.

Clonmel caused the shock of the day with a 19-15 home victory over undefeated Richmond to share top spot in the table. Player Coach Ben Martin put Clonmel ahead with a penalty after ten minutes. Daragh Clancy levelled the scores on the half hour mark but two minutes later Martin restored Clonmel’s advantage with a second penalty for a 6-3 half time lead.
Martin made it 9-3 twelve minutes into the second half but minutes later Richmond were awarded a penalty try which Stephen Clancy converted.
Ten minutes from time Pierce Byrne scored a try for Clonmel and Martin converted and shortly after kicked his fourth penalty. On the stroke of half time John Bennett scored a try for Richmond to secure a losing bonus point.

Three other sides share top spot after two series of games. St. Senan’s are one of these sides as they followed up last week’s win over Crosshaven with a 15-12 away win over Old Christians. The Clare side led 8-0 at half time with a try by Fernando Gallant and a penalty by Declan Collins. Fergal Lawler added a second try for Senan’s and Collins converted. Old Christians replied with tries from Conor Quaid and Tom Maher and Conor Mangan kicked a conversion.

Galbally defeated Tralee 20-15 to record there second win. The Kerry side led 9-5 at the short whistle with Brian Mullins kicking three penalties for the home side and Danny Hayes replied with a try for Galbally. Tony Hennebry scored two tries after the break for last season’s Second Division champions and Darren Guerin kicked a conversion and penalty. Mullins replied with two further penalties for Tralee.

Skibbereen are the other side to share top spot after they travelled to Thurles and defeated the home side 11-7. A John O’Sullivan try and David Shannon penalty had the visitors 8-7 ahead at half time. Larry O’Gorman scored for Thurles and Jason Moore converted. Shannon added another penalty in the second half.

Waterpark and Crosshaven played out a 14-14 draw at Myrtleville Cross. Eamon Ring scored a try for the home side and Kieran Doran kicked two penalties and Fergal Campion one. Waterpark replied with a try by Eddie Tobin and three penalties by John Flynn.

Kanturk had a surprising 16-0 home win over Kilfeacle. Darragh Meade scored all the points for the home side with a try, conversion and three penalties.

Cobh Pirates bounced back after last week’s defeat by Galbally with a 40-8 home win over Clanwilliam. Two tries by Alan Langford and one by Peter Aherne and two Eamon Ronan conversions gave the Pirates a 19-3 interval lead. Derek Shiels kicked a penalty for the visitors. Conor Anderson, John Barry Murphy and Ruairi Geary scored further tries for Cobh after the break and Ronan converted all three. Sean Whelan replied with a try for Clanwilliam.

In the opening round of games in Division Two Muskerry defeated local rivals Ballincollig 29-9 at Ballyanly. Pat Rourke, Eoin Keohane, Tyrone O’Regan, Rob O’Mahony and Joe Clair were try scorers for Muskerry and Keohane kicked two conversions. Kevin Ryan replied with three penalties for Ballincollig.

Youghal were the highest scorers in Division Two with a 31-5 home win over Scariff. Aaron Daly, Anthony Mason, Sean Brosnan scored tries for Youghal and Daly kicked two conversions and four penalties. James Kelly replied with a try for Scariff.

Both Kerry sides lost at home to Limerick opposition. Third Division champions Presentation continued their great form with an 11-8 away win over Castleisland. Stephen Ryan scored a try for the Limerick side and Mark Phayer kicked two penalties. Pat Fitzgerald replied with a try for the home side and JJ Carey kicked a penalty.
St. Mary’s defeated Killarney 13-6. Niall Counihan scored a try for the visitors and Sean Lyons kicked a conversion and two penalties. Paudie Sheahan kicked two penalties for the home side who looked like earning a share of the spoils until Counihan’s late try.

Newcastle West defeated Bandon 16-13. The sides were level 3-3 at half time. Alan Roche and Sean O’Riordan exchanged penalties. Tom Kelleher scored a try for Newcastle West and Roche converted and also added two further penalties. Des Prendergast replied with a try for Bandon and O’Riordan converted and also kicked a penalty.

Kinsale recorded a 17-0 away win over Newport. Renaud Sergere scored two tries for the winners and Paul Perez kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Mallow also had an away win with a 13-6 victory over Ennis. A Micheal O’Flynn penalty and a try from Richard Weedle had Mallow 8-3 ahead at the break. Sam Holt added a second try for Mallow and Bryan Murphy kicked two penalties for the home side.

In Division Three the two Kerry sides recorded the biggest wins of the day. Killorglin defeated Kilrush 52-3. Chris O’Sullivan, David O’Sullivan, Mickey Griffin, Andrew O’Reilly, John Joe Johnson, David Coffey and Liam Walsh all scored tries for the winners and Coffey kicked seven conversions and a penalty.

Corca Dhuibhne defeated Carrick-on Suir 31-14. Kevin Moriarty, Niall Flaherty, Ciaran Collins and Shane Griffin scored tries for the winners and Moriarty added four conversions and a penalty. The Tipperary side replied with tries from James Wallace and Ed O’Donnell both converted by Charlie O’Keeffe.

A last minute try by Micheal Enright earned Abbeyfeale an 8-7 home win over Waterford City. Thomas Enright kicked a first half penalty for the home side and Simon O’Hara replied with a try which Darren Walsh converted for Waterford.

Fermoy were surprisingly beaten at home by Dungarvan 22-9. The home side trailed 7-3 at half time and looked like at least securing a losing bonus point but a last minute try by James Phelan which Conor Foley converted put the result beyond Fermoy. Joey Lawlor and David O’Riordan were Dungarvan’s other try scorers. Foley added a penalty and David Hickey kicked a conversion. Joe Lee replied with three penalties for the home side.

Charleville had to come from behind to defeat Bantry Bay 11-6. Joe Gillis scored a try for the winners and Shane Corkery kicked two penalties.

Dunmanway back in junior rugby got off to a winning start with a 17-8 home win over Shandon. Damien Kocik score two tries for the winners and Dan Sweeney kicked two conversions and a penalty. Declan Murray replied with a try for Shandon.

Cork Constitution defeated Cashel 53-0 in the Munster Seconds League South at Temple Hill. Peter O’Sullivan and Simon Hanbidge each scored two tries and Paul Sheehan, Eoin O’Donnell, Niall O’Driscoll and Dave Clarke got one each. O’Sullivan converted all seven tries and Danny O’Shea added a drop goal.

Dolphin had a big 65-21 win over U.C.C. in the Junior Two League South. Martin Ahern, Killian Walsh, Gary Ross, Aidan Uniake and Trevor O’Sullivan were try scorers for the winners.

Cobh Pirates lost at home to Highfield 25-18. Willie Dunne and Martin Reidy scored tries for the Pirates and Eoin Geary kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Carrigaline continued their good run with a 34-7 away win over Kinsale. Kieran Kiely scored three tries for the winners and Sean Masterson, Aidan O’Reilly and Phil Ryan got one apiece. John Tait and Bernard Kiely each kicked a conversion.
