Clonakilty caused another upset in the Munster Junior Cup as Cashel extend their advantage at the top of the Munster Junior League.

Clonakilty will now face Garryowen at “The Vale” in the third round of the Munster Junior Cup after an exciting 23-21 win over Sunday’s Well at Musgrave Park.
The kicking of James Deasy proved crucial as he landed six penalties for the visitors, while his counterpart Colin Corkery for Sunday’s Well converted their three ties but a long range penalty in the final minute which would have won the tie failed to reach the target. Sean Duignan scored a try for Clonakilty and the ‘Well replied with a penalty try and tries by Stephen Landers and Niall Horgan.

Cashel took full advantage of Richmond’s game with Waterpark being postponed due to a frozen pitch as they defeated Old Christians 23-14. The Tipperary side held a narrow 11-9 half time advantage with a try from Brian Silke and Darragh O’Brien kicked two penalties. Aidan Tobin replied with three penalties for the visitors. Two tries by John Ed O’Connor and an O’Brien conversion extended Cashel’s advantage inside the opening eight minutes of the second half. Conor Quaid replied with a try for the visitors ten minutes from time.
Crosshaven easily disposed of the challenge of Ballincollig emerging 50-5 winners at Tanner Park to move into third place. Liam Delaney scored two tries and kicked two conversions and four penalties of Crosshaven’s total. Jake Grey, Paul Cogan, Brian Murphy and Ross O’Connell all scored tries and Paul Memory added two conversions. Cathal Twohig was the home side’s try scorer.
Skibbereen caused a shock at Clanwilliam with an 11-10 away victory. Tries by Robert Doyle and Kieran Merrigan had Clanwilliam 10-3 ahead at the interval. David Shannon replied with a penalty for the visitors. A try by Matt Darby and another Shannon penalty secured the points for the visitors.
Kilfeacle kept up their challenge for a top five finish with a 32-17 home win over St. Senan’s. Ian Burns, Aidan Long, Charles Walsh, Shane Luby and Billy Callaghan were try scorers for the Tipperary side and Luby kicked two conversions and a penalty. Fergal Lawlor and Pa Ryan replied with tries for Senan’s and Declan Collins converted both and also added a penalty.
Tralee had a 37-18 away win over Cobh Pirates. It was 13-13 at half time with James Murphy scoring a try for the Pirates and Mark Chandler adding a conversion and two penalties. Ciaran Deane replied with a try for the visitors and Garth Walsh kicked a conversion and two penalties. Tries by Joe Costelloe, Liam Quaid and James Walsh secured the bonus point for Tralee and Gareth Walsh converted all three and also kicked a penalty. Jack Hickey replied with a try for the home side.
Clonmel defeated Thurles 24-10 in the Tipperary derby. A try by Stephen Pyke converted by Conor Cooney gave Clonmel a 7-0 interval lead. Two tries by Niall O’Brien and one by Cooney who ran the full length of the pitch to score and a Cooney conversion eased the home side’s relegation worries. Thurles replied with tries from Eamon Connelly and Dara Duggan.

As a result of the postponement of the meeting of the top two sides Newcastle West and Galbally in the Second Division has allowed Kanturk go top of the table after their 22-6 home win over promotion chasing St. Mary’s. It was a battle of the kickers with Darragh Meade kicking five penalties and converting a try by Peter Earley for Kanturk. Sean Lyons and John Ford kicked a penalty each for the Limerick side who also missed six kicks at goal.
Castleisland lost valuable ground when they went down 19-10 away to Ennis. Cian Clancy and Niall Nevin scored tries for the Clare side and Bryan Murphy added three penalties. Shane O’Connell replied with a try for the Kerry side and Mark Connolly kicked a conversion and penalty.
Mallow defeated Kinsale 17-11 to keep their promotion hopes alive. They had tries from Jim Moloney, Frank Thornton and Leonard Browne and Brian Morris kicked a conversion. Peter Murphy replied with a try and two penalties.
Youghal have moved into the top four after their 36-5 home win over Killarney. Skipper Alan Fox scored two tries for the winners and Brendan Mackey, Jonathon Ormond and Garret Hogan one. Keith McCarthy kicked four conversions and Ian Broderick added a drop goal. Paudie Sheehan replied with a try for the Kerry side.
Two late tries by Newport saw them snatch a 15-12 away win over Muskerry. Darragh Connolly and Darragh Ryan scored tries for the winners and Michael Bawn kicked a conversion and penalty. Jaydee Meyer and JJ Herlihy were try scorers for Muskerry and Pat Dennehy kicked a conversion.
The battle at the foot of the table ended all square after Bandon and Charleville played a 6-6 draw at Old Chapel. Cathal Crowley kicked two penalties for the home side and Frankie Holly replied with two penalties for the north Cork side. The visitors were very upset that a penalty kick that both touch judges raised their flags for was disallowed by the referee and this decision could be the difference between Charleville staying in the Second Division and being relegated.

Two games in the Third Division were called off the Fermoy v Presentation tie which is refixed for next week and the Killorglin v Waterford City game.
This allowed Scariff move to within five points of leaders Presentation after their 8-3 home win over Abbeyfeale. James Kelly scored a try and penalty for the Clare side and David Collins replied with a penalty for the visitors.
Corca Dhuibhne kept up their challenge with an 18-10 away win over Kilrush. Neill Flaherty and Kevin Moriarty were try scorers for the west Kerry Gaeltacht side and Ciaran Collins kicked a conversion and two penalties.
Dungarvan got back to winning ways with a 17-10 home win over Douglas. Michael Daly, Cian Moloney and Olan Murray scored tries for the winners and Conor Forde kicked a conversion.
Adrian Hanrahan kicked three penalties for Bantry Bay in their 9-0 home win over Shandon.
