More progress was made in the Munster Junior Cup with nine games being played along with the meeting of Bruff against Shannon going ahead this evening. Richmond closed the gap to two points at the top of the First Division of the Munster Junior League.

U.C.C. and Cashel are both up to date in the Munster Junior Cup competition as they booked their places in the quarter finals on March 13th.

A last minute penalty by Kevin Kidney saw College defeat last season’s beaten finalists Young Munster 14-12 at the Mardyke. Brendan Daly scored a try for the students and Gareth O’Suilleabhain kicked two penalties. Ian Cross replied with four penalties for ‘Munsters.

Cashel kept their double hopes alive with a hard earned 17-10 home win over St. Mary’s.
Tries from Brian Silke and John Ed O’Connor and a Daragh O’Brien conversion had the home side 12-0 ahead after six minutes. Sean Lyons closed the gap to five points before half time with the conversion of a penalty try. Pat O’Connor extended the home side’s advantage with a try and a Lyons penalty kept the Saints in touch although the Second Division side did have chances of forcing extra time.

Favourites Cork Constitution opened their campaign with a 21-15 away win over Youghal. A try by Conor Coleman and a conversion and penalty by Keith McCarthy gave Youghal a 10-8 interval lead. Conor Desmond scored a try for the visitors and Darragh Dunne kicked a penalty. Two tries by Eoin O’Donnell and another penalty by Dunne saw the Temple Hill side through to an away meeting with Richmond next week. Conor Coleman kept Youghal in contention with a second try.

Newcastle West made Dolphin work hard for their 34-21 victory at the West Limerick venue. The sides were level 13-13 at half time and entering injury time Dolphin were defending on their own line with a 27-21 advantage but a quick ball out to Niall O’Driscoll saw the winger race away to score his third try of the game. Doug Abbott was Dolphin’s other try scorer and Cormac O’Flynn converted all four tries and added two penalties. Sean Corbett and Rory Keating scored tries for the home side and Tommy Kelleher kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Both Kilfeacle and Clanwilliam will square up to each other next week after both defeated Third Division sides in their fourth round ties. Kilfeacle defeated promotion chasing Scariff 19-6. Tries from Shane Nolan and Jack O’Sullivan both converted by Shane Loony had the Tipperary side 14-3 ahead at the break Charles Walsh scored a third try for the winners and James Kelly replied with a penalty in each half for the visitors.

Clanwilliam travelled to Fermoy and defeated the home side 22-3. Tries by Brian O’Rahilly and Ian Quinlan had the visitors 10-3 in front at the interval. Shane O’Riordan kicked a penalty for Fermoy. Kieran Merrigan and Quinlan added further tries and Richard Childs added one conversion.

Galbally booked their place in the fifth round with a 29-12 away win over Highfield. Kevin Casey, Ed Fraher, Tom Davern and Frank Cussen scored tries for the winners and Darren Guerin kicked three penalties. Galbally will now face Skibbereen next week after the West Cork side received a walk over from Kinsale.

Tralee also qualified for the fifth round and a home tie against Waterpark after their 35-8 victory over Midleton at O’Dowd Park. Brian O’Sullivan, Michael Deane, John Morath, Joe Costello and Gareth Walsh were all try scorers for the Kerry side and Walsh kicked two penalties and two conversions.

Garryowen ended Clonakilty’s great run with a 15-3 victory at The Vale in the last Third round tie. John Mark Griffin and Barry Sheehan were try scorers for the Limerick side and Conor Kilroy kicked a conversion and penalty. Matt Kirby replied with a penalty for the home side.

Richmond moved to within two points of leaders Cashel in Division One of the Munster Junior League after they defeated Waterpark 34-15 in their outstanding game. The Limerick side had the bonus point by half time as they led 24-3. Michael Kelleher, Ian Madden, Sean Bennett, Pat Humphries and James McDermott scored tries for the Limerick side and Stephen Clancy kicked three conversions and a penalty.

In Division Three Abbeyfeale defeated Corca Dhuibhne 9-8. Andrew Scannell kicked three penalties for the visitors and Ciaran Slattery replied with a try for the Kerry Gaeltacht side and Ciaran Collins added a penalty.

Kanturk won their local derby tie against Mallow to reach the quarter finals of the Munster Junior Plate with a 14-11 victory. Conor Breen scored a try for the winners and Stephen McAuliffe kicked three penalties. Frank Thornton replied with a try for Mallow and Bryan Morris added two penalties.

A Johnny Cooney try and two penalties from David Hickey were not enough for Dungarvan who lost at home to Killarney 27-11.

Bandon defeated Muskerry 8-0. Peter Calnan scored the winner’s try and Richard Milner landed a penalty.

Sunday’s Well defeated Douglas 52-3 with tries from Till Settling, Daniel Horgan, James Harding, Colin Corkery, Peader Brehony and a penalty try. Corkery kicked five conversions and four penalties.

Castleisland are through to the semi finals after their 18-17 away win over Nenagh Ormond. Mike O’Sullivan, Matthew Ahern and Mike Cronin scored tries for the winners and Mark Connolly added a penalty. Nenagh replied with two tries from Sham Quinlan and one by David Walsh. Dan Fogarty kicked one conversion.

A Brian Humphries try was not enough to give Shandon their first win of the season as they lost at home to Old Crescent 10-5 in the Munster Junior Bowl quarter final.
A try by Derek Twiss and a Luke O’Shea penalty failed to keep Killorglin in the competition as it is Kilrush who advanced on a 10-8 score line.

The semi final line up for the Junior Two League South was completed when Tralee won their play off against Carrigaline at Moneygourney 17-15. Cormac Murphy scored a try for the Kerry side and Gordon Kerins kicked four penalties.

Dolphin defeated old rivals Cork Constitution 20-7 with Mark Long scoring two tires and Tim Cotter one. Pat Ahern kicked a penalty and Gearoid Ryan a conversion.

Ballincollig defeated U.C.C. 12-11 to deny the students the Junior Three League South trophy. Danny McSwiney and Will Schubert scored tries for the winners and Denis Galvin kicked a conversion.
