Junior Rugby Roundup

A full program of games in the Munster Junior League scheduled for this weekend went ahead with the exception of the Division One clash between Crosshaven and Clanwilliam and the Third Division meeting of Abbeyfeale and Bantry Bay.

There is no change at the top of the First Division as both Cashel and Richmond preserved their unbeaten records with away victories.
Leaders Cashel easily brushed aside the challenge of St. Senan’s with a 70-8 victory. It was 28-3 to the visitors at half time. Cian O’Connor scored three tries for the Tipperary side and Jack Ryan, Conor Quinlan, Kevin Leamy, Howard Stanley, Pat O’Connor and Robert Coates got one each. Darragh O’Brien kicked six conversions and Pat O’Connor two. Declan Collins replied with a try and penalty for the Shannon town based side.
Defending champions Richmond picked up maximum points with a 32-0 away win over Thurles. Jeff McNamara scored two tries for the Limerick side and Ian Madden, Pat Humphreys and Pat McNamara also scored tries. Michael Kelleher kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Old Christians moved up to fifth place with a 26-10 home win over Clonmel. The home side side led 12-5 at half time with tries from Scott Vickery and Brian Rall and a conversion by Aidan Tobin. John Long replied with a try for the visitors. Peter Twohig and Stephen O’Brien scored further tries for the Rathcooney side and Tobin converted both and Conor Cooney replied with a try for Clonmel.
Their was a thrilling game at Tralee as the home side and Kilfeacle played out and an exciting 29-29 draw. The home dominated for long periods and led 22-5 at half time. Brian Moran, Jason Thong and Sean Hurley scored first half tries for Tralee and Garrett Walsh kicked two conversions and a penalty. Shane Casey replied with a try for the Tipperary side. Johnny Morath scored a fourth try for Tralee and Walsh converted. Kilfeacle replied with two tries from Jack O’Sullivan and a try each by Sean Leahy and John Coughlan. Peters converted two of the tries but his conversion attempt from the side line in the final minute just fell short of the target.
Skibbereen defeated Waterpark 10-8 at Ballinakill. David Shannon gave the visitors a 3-0 interval lead. Waterpark who were on top through out took the lead with a try by Colm O’Shea and Brendan Walsh extended their advantage with a penalty. Ten minutes from time Shannon intercepted a move and scored a try which he also converted.
Cobh Pirates eased their relegation worries with a 34-5 home win over bottom side Ballincollig at the East Cork venue. James Murphy scored three tries for the Pirates and Ciaran Duignan and Jack Hickey got a try each. Hickey kicked a penalty and two conversions and Mark Chandler also added a conversion.

There was no change at the top of the Second Division as all of the top five sides won.
Galbally defeated Mallow 26-9 in the top game of the day. Three penalties from Sean Bourke gave Galbally a 9-3 lead at the interval. Bryan Morris replied with a penalty for Mallow. Kevin Casey, Timmy Casey and Niall McNamara scored tries for the winners and Bourke added one conversion, while Mallow’s only response were two further penalties from Morris.
Newcastle West maintained their lead at the top with a 19-13 away win over Killarney. The Kerry side led 13-8 at half time with a penalty try and a conversion and two penalties from Paudie Sheehan. Tommy Kelleher scored a try for the visitors and Sean Neville kicked a penalty. Niall Kelleher added a try for the West Limerick side after the break and Neville kicked two further penalties.
St. Mary’s remain in second place after a late rally saw them snatch a 23-17 home win over Ennis. Matt Hickey, Darren Clancy and Sean Lyons scored tries for the Parish side and Lyons kicked a conversion and two penalties.
Kanturk maintained their promotion challenge with a 22-7 away victory over Bandon. Peter Earley scored a try for Kanturk and Darragh Meade added a conversion and five penalties. Philip Powell replied with a try for Bandon and Richard Milner converted.
Castleisland kept their promotion hopes on track with a 12-3 away win over Newport. PJ Casey and Pat O’Leary scored tries for the Kerry side and Mark Connelly kicked a conversion.
Kinsale moved ahead of Muskerry in the table after their 25-15 home victory. Edouard Lemaire, Frazer Hodgson and Peter Murphy were try scorers for Kinsale and Murphy added two penalties and two conversions. Jaydee Meyer replied with two tries for Muskerry and Eoin Keohane kicked a conversion and a penalty.
Youghal eased their relegation worries with a 44-3 away win over Charleville. Thomas Curran scored two tries for the winners and Keith McCarthy, Ian Broderick, Stephen Kelly and Alan Fox got one each. McCarthy converted four of the tries and also added two penalties.

Presentation are the new leaders in the Third Division after their 41-15 home win over Killorglin. Mark Phair was their top scorer with two tries four conversions and a penalty. Stephen Ryan, Darren Hickey, Ger Clancy and Dave Hurley also scored tries.
Fermoy kept their promotion challenge on track with a 35-5 away win over Kilrush. Ned O’Brien, Joe Lee, Shane O’Riordan and Peter White scored tries for the winners and O’Riordan kicked three conversions and three penalties. Calum Bond replied with a try for the home side.
Waterford City defeated Shandon 31-5 with tries from Colin Lynch, Len Power, Aaron Foskin and Conor Power. Foskin kicked a conversion and three penalties and Christopher Murphy replied with a try for Shandon.
Douglas defeated Carrick-on-Suir 29-0 with two tries from Dan O’Connor and a try each by Sean Lehane, Denis O’Driscoll and Dave Callaghan, Eric Philpott kicked two conversions.
Corca Dhuibhne kept their challenge alive with a 19-9 home win over Dungarvan. Ciaran Collins, Gavin Curran and Neil Flaherty were try scorers for the West Kerry Gaeltacht side and Collins added two conversions.

Cobh Pirates maintained their challenge for a place in the top section of the Junior Two League with a 23-11 home win over Highfield. Tom Rice, Ian Jones and Stephen O’Neill were try scorers for the Pirates and Kieran Connelly kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Carrigaline advanced to the semi finals of the Kelly Cup with a 32-27 home win over Dunmanway.

Bandon defeated Bantry Bay 15-7 in their Junior Three league game. Teddy Quinn and John Lucitt scored tries for the winners and David O’Flynn added a conversion and Liam Dempsey a penalty.
