Wins for Clonmel and Waterpark as they extend their lead at the top of Division 1 & 2 of Munster Junior League as postponements means the Division Three play offs next week have been put back to the 4th March.
The meeting of the top two teams in Division 1 at Clonmel saw the home side take a step closer towards their third successive title with a 13-0 home win against Newcastle West.
Clonmel led 10-0 at half time with Luke Hogan scoring a try and Conor Cooney kicking a penalty and a conversion. Cooney added a second penalty in the opening minutes of the second half.
Bandon maintained their challenge for a top four finish with a 57-19 home win over St. Senan’s. The winners scored nine tries with Gearoid Crowley getting three. They were also awarded a penalty try and Tim Cummins, Kerry Desmond, Mark Bateman, Enda Phelan and Olan Crowley got one each. Desmond kicked five conversions and Luke Fleming one.
Dean O’Brien, Brian Collins and Ian Fitzgerald were the try scorers for St. Senan’s. Declan Rowe kicked two conversions.
Kilfeacle remain in fourth place after their 25-21 home win against Skibbereen. Kilfeacle led 25-0 at half time with tries from Kevin Kinnane, Brian McLoughlin and Jamie Heuston with Heuston adding two conversions and two penalties.
Skibbereen hit back with tries from David Jennings, Mike Calnan and Denis McCarthy, with McCarthy converting all three.
Clanwilliam ended Abbeyfeale’s recent good run with a 19-7 home win. John Barry, Kieran Merrigan and Brendan Quinlan scored tries for Clanwilliam and Niall Leahy kicked two conversions.
Colm O’Sullivan replied with a try for the visitors and Tom Hassett converted.
At the bottom of the table Old Christians recorded their first win of the campaign with a 30-21 home win over Muskerry with a late penalty denying the mid Cork side a losing bonus point.
Sam O’Connell, Tom Maher and John Purcell scored tries for the Rathcooney side and John Marnell kicked three penalties and three conversions.
Darren Collins, Mark Jones and Stephen Murray replied with tries for Muskerry and Shane Burke converted all three.
Galbally had a narrow 25-22 away win at Clonakilty to ease their relegation worries.
Olan Deane scored Clon’s try and Eoin Deasy kicked a conversion and five penalties.
Richmond defeated Cobh Pirates 19-5 with tries from Darragh Joyce, Jeff McNamara and Stephen Gallagher with Brian Mullins adding two conversions.
Alan Langford was Cobh’s try scorer who now they could become in embroiled in the relegation battle.
Waterpark extended their lead at the top of Division Two to nine points as their three main challengers Thurles, St. Mary’s and Youghal did not play due to their games being postponed.
Waterpark defeated Ballincollig 38-8 with tries from John O’Brien, Paddy Kiersey, Tom Lynch, Rory Hannon and David O’Donoghue. Alex Molloy converted all five tries and also added a penalty.
Ian O’Malley scored a try for Ballincollig and Charlie Boland kicked a penalty.
Waterford City still in with an outside chance of promotion received a setback when they lost away to Castleisland 14-13 with the miss of a last minute penalty costing them dearly.
Castleisland had a try from Gary Downey and Daniel O’Shea kicked three penalties.
Waterford City were awarded a penalty try. Michael Hayes converted and also kicked a penalty and Aaron Foskin added a drop goal.
A last minute penalty by Jimmy Glynn gave Mallow a 9-8 win away to Charleville in a game that also doubled up as a Munster Junior Plate game. A Glynn penalty and a drop goal by Andy Cashman ensured Mallow took the spoils.
David Stolzenberg scored a try for Charleville and Jack Doyle kicked a penalty.
Tralee recorded their third successive win with a 16-0 away win at Crosshaven.
Kinsale eased their relegation worries with a 42-14 away win against bottom side Ennis.
Sean Kingston scored two tries, two penalties and three conversions for the visitors. Ciaran Keogh, Sam Bergerson, Ian Coleman and Timmy Bradley also scored tries for Kinsale.
John Brophy scored a try for Ennis and Bryan Murphy kicked three penalties.
With the Third Division games between Fethard v Bantry Bay and Killarney v Killorglin being postponed because of weather it means next week’s quarter final play offs for promotion will have to be put back until 4th March.
Mitchelstown completed their program with a 35-0 home win over Douglas-Carrigaline a result that sees them go top two points ahead of Killorglin.
Mitchelstown who were awarded a penalty try had tries from Jack Norris, James Meaney, Andy O’Mahony and Michael O’Doherty. Patrick McGee converted all five tries.
Killorglin must now get at least three points from their rescheduled game with Killarney next week if they are to be automatically promoted.
In the other game in this Division Chorca Dhuibhne defeated Fermoy 28-10 a result that means the West Kerry Gaeltacht side will have home advantage against Fermoy in the play offs.
Ciaran O Coileain scored two tries for the winners and Alan Devane and Micheal Breathnach got one apiece. Seamus Moriarty converted all four tries.
Peter Stapleton and John McCarthy replied with tries for Fermoy.
