Only three of the seven scheduled Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup went ahead at the weekend with victory for all the travelling sides by seven points.

Two games were called off. Crosshaven’s game with St. Senan’s was postponed earlier in the week as a result of a Court injunction at the Cork Circuit Court. The Cobh Pirates v Clanwilliam tie was postponed as a result of a bereavement in the Tipperary club and both Kanturk and Waterpark received walk overs from Galbally and Skibbereen respectively.

Holders Richmond defeated Kilfeacle in a repeat of last season’s final 24-17 at the Tipperary venue. Richmond led 12-0 at half time with tries from Stephen Clancy and Finbarr Hogan with Clancy kicking a conversion. Gareth O’Hanlon and James Hayes added further tries for the Limerick side and Brian Mullins converted one. Kilfeacle replied with tries from Pat Ryan, Charles Walsh and Packie Burke with Shane Looby converting one and were camped on the Richmond line in the final minutes in an effort to send the game to extra time.

In the battle of the two promoted clubs Newcastle West defeated St. Mary’s 20-13 at Corbally. The home side led 10-7 at half time with a try from Sean Markham and a conversion and penalty by Sean Lyons. Brian McAuliffe replied with a try for the west Limerick side and Conor Whelan converted. Whelan put the visitors ahead with a try which he also converted and Tommy Kelleher added a drop goal. Lyons kicked a penalty for Mary’s.

Old Christians travelled to Tralee and came away with a 25-18 victory. The home side led 13-8 at half time with Gareth Walsh scoring a try, conversion and two penalties for Tralee and John O’Flynn replied with a try for Old Christians and Conor Mangan kicked a penalty. Two early second half tries by Darragh Daly and Chris Collins, both converted by Mangan gave the Cork side a 22-13 lead. Eoin Murphy scored a try for Tralee to keep them in contention but a second penalty by Mangan ensured his side’s place in the quarter finals next week where they will face Newcastle West.

In the Munster Seconds League South Highfield had a 53-7 win over U.C.C. at Curaheen Road. James Sheehan scored four tries for the winners and John Sheehan, Colin Forde, Fintan O’Sullivan, George French and Jack Duffy got one each. Sean Quaid kicked four conversions.

Midleton defeated Sunday’s Well 45-11 at the Towns Park. Luke McKeown and Jason Holland scored two tries each for the winners and George Glennon and Gearoid Collins also scored tries. Kieran Burns converted all six tries and also kicked a penalty.

Cashel were 43-11 home winners over Dolphin.

In the North Munster Seconds League Old Crescent had a 32-28 away win over Nenagh Ormond and U.L. Bohemian defeated Thomond 23-8.

Cork Constitution will contest yet another Dennehy Cup final after their 16-0 home win over Kinsale. The sides were scoreless at half time. Nigel Murphy scored a try for the Temple Hill side and Simon Barry converted and added three penalties.

The other semi final between Dolphin and Carrigaline was postponed due to bereavement in the Carrigaline club.

Bandon and Mitchelstown advanced to the final of the Muskerry Cup.
James Neville, Cian Buttimer, Mark Kelly, Gearoid Crowley and Tom Mulcahy scored tries in Bandon’s 33-12 away win over Sunday’s Well. Andrew Willis kicked four conversions and John Boyling and Chris Smithers replied with tries for the Well and Adam Flood kicked a conversion.

Mitchelstown defeated Clonakilty 24-18 in the other semi final. Michael Maher and James Hennessy scored tries for the winners and Pat McGee kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Bruff defeated St Senan’s 16-15 in the opening round of the McInerney Cup with a try from prop Mike Lynch and Derek Dowling kicked a conversion and three penalties.
